becoming an editor at dmoz

I am planing to become an editor at the dmoz. I was filling out the form and i came to a box asking me "What is your Business Affiliation with this category", to be honest i have pages related to the category that i want to become an editor.

Should i be honest or should i just say no affiliation?

It's always better to lie to people to get what you want. Then, when your world collapses around you, you will at lest know why.

I would rather know why my world collapsed, than to not know.

Lying keeps you on your toes. I have like probably 200 - 250 lie going right now, so if people ask me something I need to remember what I told them.

See, if you lie to someone at DMOZ you will always need to remember that your'e a liar. So if they (or anyone else you lie to) comes to you one day and says, "I thought you said you weren't affiliated with this category" then you will need to think back, "oh shit did I lie to them?", "which lie did I tell to that person?"

My suggestion is to lie. Lie your ass off.

I was tinking about becoming an editor for a few categories that I keep tryin' to submit too, but then realize they never have a fucking editor! I would tell them the truth...'specially if they need an editor for that category. I think that's why most people become editors over there.

Just don't forget to review the other sites besides your own once ya get the job...cuz the rest of the editors over there seem like they NEVER review a damn thing.

Anyways - fuck that, RedShoe is right.

Lie your ass thru til you get what you want - cuz everybody else is doing the exact same shit.

But make sure you'll remember it later or you gonna look like a goat in front of your boss.

Tell the truth.

Chances are not good that you'll be accepted as an editor anyway, altho I hear they are adding some new editors, or at least talking about adding new editors.

Actually that is main reason i wanted to become an editor at this category. I submitted a super clean website and they never listed. When i look at the already listed websites, mine has 10 times more content and 10 times less banners. So, i decided to become an editor. But, I want to clear it that i am not going to cheat or try to list shitty websites that i own. I will be honest but of course if they accept me.

Give up. I been trying to get in on that racket for a couple years now. Me and about 20 other people I know have made up some of the most glorious bullshit stories to get in there. Forget it. Even for the most obscure niche categories with no editors... no go.

I'm an editor. It's actually an interesting job - forces you to look at what other folks are doing. I enjoy it.

Definitely tell them your affiliation - they expect you to be affiliated and it's not a problem. I'd recommend, in the section that asks if you're affiliated, list one of your domains and explain you're doing so in order for them to know your whois info. i.e. you're being 100% in the open about your sites.

Then pick a couple sample sites and add the sample listings. Title = title on the site. Description: describe the site and it's contents, not any sort of ad. In other words, don't do:
- Twenty pictures of hot cumshots.
...rather
- Photos of younger models giving blowjobs in an outdoor setting.

It's not that hard to get accepted. And yeah, we could use the help. People bitch about how long it takes, but it's a volunteer deal. In the Image Galleries section there's over 65,000 sites listed - and over 25,000 waiting to be reviewed. Time that could be spent reviewing is taken up tracking cheaters (redirects, blind links, etc.)

Good luck.

Like Tucks said.

I edit a category at DMOZ. They WANT you to have a site that fit's into the category you're applying for. This is how you prove you know the category first hand.

That doesn't mean you get to flood the category with your sites and your friend's sites. It's just their way of determining that you know what you're doing.

love

all i'd like to say is.. mm.. be careful not to be caught. I mean 'add other sites to the cat you'r gonna take care of' I know several editors there (ODP) who has been kicked out simply because they'd been busy for listing their own sites exclusively!

Nemesis! (great name btw)

As other editors here have said, honesty is the ONLY way you will have a chance at being accepted.

The /Adult category is in a state of change right now, and accepting new, and honest editors is part of it.

I edit at top level /Adult, so if you'd like some help with your application, feel free to post on my DMOZ Help Board [ http://www.ladyx.com/webmasters/forum/messagelog.html ] and I'll be happy to help you!

And remember, 'Humans do 'IT' better!' *wink*
