January 17, 2005 -- A Queens man is facing 25 years in prison for allegedly raping, beating and then enslaving two teenage girls and forcing them into prostitution.
The alleged pimp, 30-year-old Barrington Heffenden of 158th Street in Jamaica, was arraigned Friday on charges of kidnapping, sexual assault and promoting prostitution, after one of the girls managed to escape and alert cops.

Authorities then raided Heffenden's home, where they found the other girl.

Both victims are runaways, ages 13 and 15, whom Heffenden had repeatedly sexually attacked, beaten and then forced to perform sexual acts with scores of male customers, said Queens DA Richard Brown.

Heffenden forced the 13-year-old girl, who is from The Bronx, to charge men $50 for oral sex and $100 for straight sex, law-enforcement sources said.

The 15-year-old girl, who had run away from her home in Suffolk County, was forced to have sex with men who picked her up at Heffenden's home and took her to nearby hotels and residences, the sources said.

The older teen had left Long Island on Jan. 5 and gone to stay with Heffenden after calling a 16-year-old friend, Angela Perez, who already lived with him. The 15-year-old told cops that Heffenden raped her the day she arrived at his home before being made to turn tricks, according to sources.

On Wednesday, the terrified girl managed to run away and flee on the subway, ending up in Brooklyn, where she found a police officer on the street.

The girl gave cops Heffenden's address and they acquired a warrant to search his home. There, they found the 13-year-old and Perez - who has also been charged with kidnapping and promoting prostitution, sources said.

I do not understand why kids runaway especially girls. They end up in a worse position than before
