The LYRICS to the MASH theme song ... WTF?!
WTF, there's a MASH movie on or something, and they just played the normal MASH theme song but with lyrics ... that is one fucked up song!
The chorus goes: "Suicide is painless, it brings on many changes, and I can take or leave it if I pleeeease" ... the rest of the song goes on about other nice aspects of suicide. What the fuck?! ![]() |

The movie producer's 16 year old son wrote the theme song, you'd have to see the movie to understand it I guess?

yeah, the movie really wasn't very good, but it could be that I was watching the television show for so long before I saw the movie, instead of the other way around.
Who knows, I just think that Alan Alda is Hawkeye and there can never be any other. |

From http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/8200/Song.htm :
This is a GREAT song. The music hits just the right note with its gentleness and hint of underlying sorrow. And the lyrics perfectly capture the spirit of the film, mocking defeatism while acknowledging their suffering. THE SCENE: Capt. Walter Kosciusko "Painless Pole" Waldowski - the best equipped dentist in the army - has decided his womanizing is merely a cover-up for homosexuality. Feeling he has nothing to live for, he can see only one way out: suicide. Painless seeks out his surgical friends for a quick and easy method. "Black capsule!" says Trapper John. Painless wonders if it will really work but is assured by Trapper, "It worked for Hitler and Eva Braun." So the stage is set for the Last Supper. Painless consumes his Black Capsule and lies down in his coffin. At this Private Seidman, accompanied by guitar, begins to sing "Suicide is Painless" |

MASH rocks. The movie didn't do much, and considering that only Radar came out unscathed and unchanged from movie to TV is actually an accomplishment. Who else would have made a perfect Walter O'Reilly?
"Suicide" was the dentist...but for a lot of people in that era, that song was something completely different...which is why there were no lyrics sung for the television show, just the tune. |

BTW, the file info for that mp3 incorrectly lists the artist as "The M.A.S.H.", the actual artist is Johnny Mandel (in case you want to find a full quality version
