My money market fund

...took a substantial loss on this months statement...which of course reflects last month. Did this happen to everyone? Is it because of the dollar dropping in value?

I have two Money Market Funds but the one that took the substantial hit (as it is a much larger account) was with Charles Schwab.

I was down around 1% last month. Most of it from the market conditions. Nothing major.

Is part of the loss from fees? Make sure they arent churning the hell out of your account.

Well this was approximately a 6% hit.

I guess the better question would be...did Schwab account holders take a similar hit?

Are you confusing mutual funds with money market funds? Schwab funds have always maintained a stable $1 per share value on their Money Market funds (Schwab Money Market, Schwab Tax Exempt Money Market, Schwab Govt. Money Market, Schwab U.S. Treasury Money Market, Schwab Value Advantage, and various state related money market funds - such as Schwab CA Muni Money Fund, etc.).

What is the name of the investment product you own that took a "substantial hit" ?

No money market product from any reputable company I have known has ever dropped below $1.00 NAV.

No I am not confusing the money market fund with my other Schwab accounts...but I am an idiot. I misread my statement.

All is good...for on the totality of the accounts I made money.

Good thing.

The nice thing about money market funds is they maintain a stable 1.00 per share price. Always have, and always will (hopefully). Unlike bank accounts that have FDIC insurance, money market funds are not guaranteed - but they maintain investor confidence because they never lose principal.
