The guy on the left is Swiss, the one on the right is from England. After the Tsunami they stayed in Thailand to help the local people cleaning up everything. The picture was taken in a work break when a thai local brought them some beer as we was so thankful for their help.

On a serious note, I understand both points but for me personally I would change my vacation so that I would still be going to the region but I would go lend a hand and try and make some small difference. however, i saw on NBC news that the local restaurants, hotels, tour guides (etc) are BEGGING for tourists to come back....they cannot work, they have no customers, and people are being laid off from their jobs because there is nobody to serve

On the picture where the lady collects garbage, the thing that you should all see is how one person ( probably volauntary) helps, while the other lays down and takes a sun bath. The old dude is the one that is to be blamed for acting stupid. And dont say he's doing the right thing by spending his money and creating work place. If he wanted to help he should have donated whatever he had and get the hell out of there. Not mentioning the fact that the countries affected by the tsunami face food and starvation problems......\

Love the candy assed knee jerk reactions. In the wake of a disaster like this, the tourism industry turns to shit. The tourism industry feeds many people, and while these people aren't exactly going to be making up for everyone else who has since cancelled their trip, whatever they're spending is going to help sustain whichever hotel they are staying at, bar they're drinking at, and shops they buy at.

And who are you to say that these people haven't helped? Do you have to help 18 hours a day? Couldn't one help, and then relax for a while?
