I've decided to become a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian/Pesca-Vegetarian

Actually living life without labels would be easier

So basically I still want to have dairy products, eggs and fish but omit all other meats. I haven't eaten much meat in the past 6 months anyway but it just doesn't appeal to me at all anymore. I have noticed that meat also doesn't taste the same as it did when I was a child. Even the finest cuts of meat aren't as tender or tasty as they used to be. I can't imagine what kind of steroids they give to the animals and other chemicals, but I know it can't be healthy in the long run. So, I've decided to not eat it anymore and I doubt I will miss it at all. Anyone else have similar meal plans?

I dig that perspective, however I am a fan of the occasional steak, or chicken in this or that...

so WHEN I eat meat, and take the time to get it...I go ORGANIC... no hormones, no anti-biotics, grain fed, and killed well...I like the kosher meats as well...good stuff...

I try to avoid common meats as much as possible, which is actually pretty easy...

I also try to keep all my produce & grains organic as much as possible too...I'm not a fanatic, but I like to keep my house clean in a manner of speaking...

Awesome. There's a lot of great organic products out there. I really want to grow my own fruits/veggies like I did when I was little. My parents were in the annual flower and produce business, so I look forward to when I can have my own greenhouse and fruit trees etc. It's a lot of fun!

I can also relate to that...I like spending time outside doing stuff... these past few years being married to this computer have taken it's toll...my goal for 2005 is to spend a LOT more time offline doing all sorts of things, back to school, playing in the dirt, etc...

oh, forgot, here's a lil link for ya if you want to scope a source of organic meat (if you decide to slip) that may or may not be in your area...they have a search for a local distribitor function: http://www.organicvalley.com/

I was a fanatically strict macrobiotic for about three years which is basically vegan.

Pretty hard to do without a personal chef following me around (I didn't have one)

I broke the no meat with an orgainic burger on a ranch in Montana, boy did that shit taste good. Only took my stomach a couple weeks to get used to eating meat again.

Nowadays I am of the "all things in moderation" philosophy.

Eating as little dead cow as possible will at least minimize your chances of getting mad cow etc. I cannot donate blood now since I ate meat in England like 15 years ago and they think anyone who did may be a dormant mad cow carrier.

Cool, moderation is good too. That's interesting about the blood donation, I didn't know that.

FF I to have given away eating meat..

Like others here I can report my weight dropped and my health improved dramatically.. haven't had a cold in a year and a half and my wife works in child care and is constantly sick with colds and viruses that I used to get.

Also I donate blood and my iron levels have improved since ditching meat 2+ years ago.

Be conscious of getting enough protien and iron.. there's plenty of cereals that allow that for breakfast now.. you can go organic milk which is a more humanitarian production method, and go organic free range eggs.. get renet free cheese also (stomach liing of cows is used in most cheeses, vegetarian alternatives exist).

Get into some recipe books and just make sure you've got interesting things to eat that give you what you need.

Good luck with it!

That is exactly what I eat. Haven't eaten meat or poulty in over 5 years, but I enjoy fish, dairy products, and everything else.

My justification is, I can whack a fish over the side of the boat until it's dead ... but in a day and age where I have a choice, I probably wouldn't choose to kill a cow for consumption.

No problem at all with what anyone else eats, for some reason this is just the way I am. I really can't explain lol !

I had a baked mutated chicken leg the other day ... was almost as big as my head. lol.
But seriously, if you want to continue to eat meats you can allways buy poultry live and have them kill it for you on the spot. Quite a few spots in NY.
