Adult Webmaster Day | Careful...this is a long post
You know, I have always wondered why it was that a vast majority of people look down on our industry because of the moral/ethical implications.
I am still surprised, even after the glamourization of the likes of Hugh Hefner and Howard Stern; that we are still viewed as wrong. Foor recent example, the blatant use of the word "pornographer" in the headline of that CNN article posted 30 times today, as well as the story on Dateline where the entire show consisted of attempts to draw correlations between adult webmasters and child pornographers. All in an ignorant attempt to continuously discredit and single us out like scourges of the human race.
I've often wondered what would be the result if some churchgoing hypocrite stumbled in GFY while surfing the internet. My assumption is that this person would feel their entire comfort rug pulled out right from under them, leaving them to fall unwittingly into a chasm of enlightenment brought on by a forced open mind.
From credit card processing to video streaming, we've been the pioneers, and still, we are unidentified and uncredited by all the large corporations looming online to utilize our tactics to their advantage.
I have been convinced that we "pornographers" comprise of some of the best and the brightest of this new frontier that seems to have taken our world by the scruff of the neck and thrown it into some strange, vast collective consciousness we call the internet. I have my proof, in [Labret]'s thread , of a good measure of our competence. After reading that, I felt I needed to comment.
Today, I salute all of you, rich or poor, successful or struggling, knowledgable or learning. Push on, and remember that we as "pornographers" do not hustle to live, we live to hustle. It would be a mistake for anyone to forget that.
Call me cheesy, if you wish, but I do think it might be a good idea to actually create a sort of holiday for ourselves. To remember the pioneers of this industry, ridiculed and critisized, no matter how succesful, stupid or poor. It might be high time to acknowledge ourselves.
