We already have those mini pcs called shuttle boxes, mac is a little slow.

infecto 01-11-2005 01:44 PM

Its ok but too bad its a mac number one and that you can get PCs thats small and even smaller with same/similar specs. Its nothing special just the first smaller mac made.

I'd say the imac pretty much counts as a "smaller mac". This is the first cheap mac made.

Digipimp 01-11-2005 01:48 PM

You guys keep saying it, can you point me to a pc this size with equal specs, software and everything else for the same price that you haven't built yourself?

Tala 01-11-2005 01:49 PM

Sweet!

THAT would be one helluva prize for a few promos....*smoke emitting from my ears as the gears in my head turn*

Yeah the sad part is macs could be priced equally to a PC but apple overprices everything they sell.

pKal 01-11-2005 01:59 PM

Nice one Apple. Mac is the best

You're forgetting one thing: macs are better. Plain and simple. They just work. Even if they're overpriced, it's still worth it.

hmmm if you buy a complete shuttle box their cheapest model is $599 without firewire, extra software, a modem and they give you an S3 video card :1orglaugh and no combo drive just a plain cd drive and no dvi for $100 more what a deal!

like i said show me a cheaper or equally priced box of this size that has everything this one has at the same price that you don't have to build yourself.

oh yeah the shuttle box is twice the size of this one too

very cool it will open mac up for alot of people.

Probono 01-11-2005 03:08 PM

I just ordered on for my Televison. Hot stuff.

OSX is far better than Windows, Firefox is far better than IE and my DLP display will look nice with the MAC DVI output.

Add itunes, Imovie and Idvd and I can input video from the camcorder and edit on a monster screen.

Any of you who have not used a Mac since OSX do not know today's Macintosh. It might not run all Windows software but it runs beautifully with software written for OSX and BSD Unix.

This Mac Mini, the Ipod and Microsoft's continuing problems with security will stop the decline in Apple's market share and developers will take notice.

It's just a stylish empty box, not a computer.

faxxaff 01-11-2005 03:31 PM

I am happy for Apple's new baby. Looks like my stock portfolio will keep on rising in value.

Rui 01-15-2005 09:49 AM

A $499 Mac is not made for Serious work. Although this unit is more than capable of handling some pretty tough business.

Hell, if you don't want to pay for her you can always get a FREE MINI MAC right here.

I'm only a few referrals away from getting one myself, and since this is the same company that gave away the iPods, I'm going to say it's a pretty safe bet.

did some (they don't have many options) customizing...
Estimated Ship:
3-4 weeks
Free Shipping
Subtotal $1,352.00

suddenly it doesn't seem like such a good deal.

rebel23 01-15-2005 11:13 AM

a couple of things suck about it.. most notably only 2 USB2 ports and 1 firewire.. you can of course get USB2 'expansions' that will plug in and give you 4 more slots. I suspect such accessories will be flying out when the mac mini's start shipping... not least because it doesnt take much to use 2 USB2 ports these days! ... the other thing is the RAM, it is SDRAM not DDR but they claim it is upgradable to 1gb.

as someone has pointed out, when you add stuff to it (maybe an external dvd writer, or external bigger hard drive) and you'll definately need that USB2 expansion and possibly a nice new monitor unless you have one lying around.. you might as well buy an imac or something :

Useless for serious work like what? Creating spyware for Windows?

Digipimp 01-15-2005 11:39 AM

it's $499 retards, of course it's not meant for computer geeks.
