Anyone that thinks they are going to physically assualt someone in a public area like a convention floor and not be arrested is out of their mind to start with. You will be locked up, you will go to court, you will be sued for the damages you cause.

Be careful if you do make a move on someone, some of us here are trained to kill and can take you within an inch of your life and not even crack a sweat doing it.

Scrapper 01-11-2005 07:10 AM

I remember old school fighting..like mass-posting their domain on NG's or sending a huge "opt-out" mass-mail for them.(Personal favorite)

Now if you had any real money..would you truly hit a person and piss it away?

LadyMischief 01-11-2005 07:16 AM

Fist fights to solve problems is about as intelligent as using a hammer to assemble a watch.. Not going to solve much, but will cause more problems in the end. People who generally feel they have to resort to threats of violence are only so motivated when they are intellectually bested, as their foolish pride requires that they seek retribution for any insult. Unfortunately most people don't realize they look even more stupid when they pick fights like 8 year olds in a schoolyard. Really really stupid.

Defending yourself is different than picking a fight.

I see people make threats of violence -- or claims of their fighting abilities -- on GFY as if they think it will give them respect.

Let me just say, for the record: If violence is one of your tools for problem solving, I am NOT impressed.

:2 cents:

I completely agree with you.

However, I would oppose any move you might make to replace all fighting with, ?DANCE OFFS.?

I?ve seen that flash banner with you and it is obvious that you would always win in a ?dance off?

. . . so that wouldn?t be fair at all!

kmanrox 01-11-2005 08:15 AM

just like you are the type not to fight, there are also people who are the type who do fight . it's just something that occurs. Kind of like being straight gay, or bisexual, you really have no control over it.

Danny_C 01-11-2005 08:15 AM

There are a lot of idiots in the world. Sometimes you have to knock one out.

Just kidding, but I do like watching grown men fight for sport.

took me many many years 2 learn fighting.... you don't win..
Also I look back and consider myself very lucky that I'm not locked away somewhere.

Halcyon you are so right on... Violence will get you no where.

Respect is earned through accomplishments - typically, words and actions do not entitle one to some respect, but do welcome ridicule.

I would like to add that I believe any and all forms of flexing/chest pounding is very caveman -- I am somewhat positive apes have eliminated the elementary school yard mentality. After school, you and me by the monkey bars! It, physical confrontation/fighting is merely a way of dealing with the inability of taking care of something the intelligent way.

Fighting is the reason I do not go to bars - what kills me is how the women eat it up (maybe we have not evolved as much as we would like to think).

The pretty ones show off their feathers; the fast ones their speed; the strong their muscles; the smart ones their cunning etc. Nothing has changed really, we only like to think it has - different packaging, same contents.

for the record, if someone i didn't know or want squeezing my ass was doing so, i woulnd't hit them in the face, i'd tell them to knock it off, or i'd find someone else to make them stop. that's a matter of someone putting their hands on my body without permission, if it went further than that it'd be much more serious and require a call to the police.

using your fists as a first line of defense is a kneejerk, childlike reaction - if you can't use your words to work out your differences you need to go back to kindergarten and relearn the basics. for that matter, if you're grabbing women's asses unsolicited you also need to revist the kindergarten class on basic respect.

Pornwolf 01-11-2005 09:56 AM

I know waay to many men from 18 to 35 that fight pretty regularly. Hell, as a kid I fought constantly. Now as an adult I know it doesn't make sense. If you are a grown man and you are even in a situation where you might have to fight you are not doing the right things with your life.

Productive people put themselves in productive settings. Anywhere you will probably end up in a fight is not productive.

Firehorse 01-12-2005 06:24 AM

Great post Hal! :thumbsup

A wise man will try everything before arms. :)

Wiggles 01-12-2005 06:50 AM

i've never heard anything more then threats, bunch of ketboard warriors here.

xclusive 01-12-2005 07:09 AM

I hate to fight and would only do it to protect my family and I am strong and wouldn't want to ruin anybody as chances are no matter how stupid they are for wanting to fight they have a family as well. It's just not worth it and you should only defend yourself.

andrej_NDC 01-12-2005 07:22 AM

Some ppl deserve it, because they are too stupid to argue with.
Its funny, how all people say that violence solves nothing, what if you are out with your GF and some stupid guy attacks her? Will you discuss it with him?

Hey You . . . I Know You! 01-12-2005 07:38 AM

I see you do not oppose my opposition to the possible conversion from fights to "Dance Offs."

The last thing I need is to get my ass kicked all over the place in a "Dance Off."

And then there are those people who are unable to read an entire thread... do they deserve it?

Jman 01-12-2005 07:47 AM

I have to agree with you... I don't beleive in fighting... Although a spanking from time to time can resolve issues .. Oui Oui.

Hal can I get a cd ? ;-)

Twe Russ 01-12-2005 07:48 AM

Anthony 01-12-2005 08:02 AM

Hal,

Sorry I disagree. Violence has it's uses.

Varius 01-12-2005 08:13 AM

I disagree, I think violence is situational.

Take for example an argument in a bar with some drunk. You can try to avoid it, but sometimes the guy just won't stop and you know at a point that a fight won't be avoided. In this case, it's better to attack first (especially if he has friends). Otherwise you are bound to just get sucker-punched and/or attacked from behind.

Another situation where I would initiate the fight is if I see some guy hitting his girl, I would not go over and ask him to stop I would just make him stop.

As for conventions though, I can't really see any point in fighting there, especially since you will guarenteed get arrested.

Varius 01-12-2005 08:14 AM

Oh and as a side note, some free advice for you all:

If you are in an argument with someone and his knuckles turn white, that doesn't mean he's scared fo you. It means his adrenaline has kicked in and he's about to punch you :upsidedow
