IP allocation help please?

If my host tells me he added *.*.*.200/29 to my vlan, then what are my usable IPs?

thanks

I did email them but it took 14 hours for a reply last time, I figured asking here was a better way to spend my time.

I asked for 5, but they didnt say how many I was getting. Sometimes i really hate this particular host, they make it much harder to do business than it should be. they pulled 5 of my IPs last july and didnt even bother telling me, I just happened to notice when another 5 stopped working and complained that 10 were down, and they said oh yeah we pulled that other 5 back in July. And with over 220 IPs spread across multiple class C's, 6 servers, and three seperate hosting companies, I dont really notice when just 5 go down.

And then when I do notice, I have to go check them all. Its a pain in the ass. And then they just give me a generic answer and dont bother telling me whats usable.

If it takes 14 hrs to get a reply you are at the wrong host. Actually if it takes more than 5 mins to get a reply than you are at the wrong host.

First and last IP in the set are network and broadcast address respectively. Some hosts may also use the first usable (second actual) IP as the gateway address.

(This is just a generic answer, and I know you don't want to hear it, but you really do have to ask your host so you're 100% sure )

BTW I don't know much about VLAN but I think it's also possible to configure it in such a way that you don't lose the network/broadcast/router IPs from the subnet, IOW a /29 is 8 usable IPs. I remember theplanet do it like this.

.200 network address
.201 likely gateway
.202-206 usable
.207 broadcast

It is possible they routed the space to your server in which case .201 be usable as well. Also some hosts will use another IP as gateway, perhaps last usable.
