Aren't they desperately looking for capital to rebuild tourist infrastructure?

Would it make sense to travel to South Asia now and look for investment opportunities? Would the locals see you as a scavenger? Or would they see you as someone helping them to make a new start as soon as possible?

I am especially thinking about Thailand (Phuket).

Tough call. I think history tends to favour travelling there and investingh heavily in new upstarts. Not everyone will have insurance and it wouldn't pay all or out right away thus gioving the opportunity to get soemthing running before the established places can.

I say god's speed to you! Buy big and try to convert as many hethans as possible while over there. j/k.

You are right about now being the time and lying a little low since so many countries are involved in the humanitarian aspect. Make sure they do not notice you and you will do fine.

I'm pretty sure foreigners can't own land in Thailand.

I know there are ways to rig up leases and whatnot, but be careful. You could easily get 0wn3d.
