looked into it - the performance of that camera is getting mixed reviews, being a layman most of it means shit to me - the criticism seems to be it doesn't perform well in low light situations like the VX 2000's.

me and my guy Marco have been looking into it for a few months - the raw video is huge, means buying a new server or two. i'm sure many shooters will be using it soon, probably already are. you'll be soon seeing paysites and DVD's pushing their content is shot in HD.

What about other brands that may perform better in lower light situations?

Sony vs JVC

Spent the last few days researching the JVC vs Sony HD cameras.
Looks like the JVC's advantage is low light and the Sony's is a larger image. Both within $200.

Going to go with the JVC probably because they also offer a deck to capture the video from so we don't were out the camera and they offer a MPEG encoder for HD.

Using a Dual Processor G5 MAC with 4GB of RAM and 1TB of drive space to capture and edit in Final Cut 4.0

Looks like HD likes LOT'S of light and controlled conditions for shotting which is great for us in our 7,000 sq/ft of studio.

Not to mention the JVC has a built in still camara and video tapes in 3 different formats.

HD SD and DV all with a a standard tape.
JVC shoots in 720P HD while the SOny does 1080i.
1080i is over kill considering Televisions one can not really tell the difference. Not to mention the standards of mostmainstream and commercial advertising requires 720P very few broadcast companies actually will work with 1080i.

I am for practicality and flexibility and the JVC is a swiss army knife of options.

What have you guys heard about the Canon XL2?

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/con...ode lid=10350

If you have a decent amount of lenses for your Canon D20, you might as well use them on the XL2!

Also, what are some of the improvements between the D10 & D20?

overpriced? it's under 3.500, that's why this Sony cam is being hyped so much, HD for the masses.

think u can get them close to 3 grand - somebody offered Marco a killer deal at the LA digital video show a few weeks ago, he called me and wanted to know if we should go for it - i told him to wait, nobody's going to pay extra for content shot in HD, might as well wait until customers demand it.

overpriced in the context that there are lesser expensive prosumer models available that perform better. ;)

i'll admit $3500 for the Sony is cheap though, prices have dropped considerably. =)
