A lot of people in the crowd had no idea what the Players Cards were.

One girl asked me if I was flashing a black AMEX :1orglaugh

D$ the next version of the cards should include a built in laser to shine in the doorman's eye to get their attention. :pimp

D-money as multi attendee of your events i have to say this was the best and glad i got in early :)

NETbilling 01-08-2005 11:43 PM

Thanks to D$ for pulling us out of line at the Player's ball to get us in.

It was a blast in the Mensniche and NATS suites and my crew had a great time too!

I thought the venue was great. It wasn't too awfully crowded and you could actually have conversations with no trouble depending where you were at. The performance was the highlight! I had a total blast.. :thumbsup

The Player's Ball was a SUPER BLAST and Cypress Hill and Flava Flav rocked the fuckin' house!

Good party D$!!!

:thumbsup :thumbsup

Got some CLASSIC video of Flava Flav doing "911 is a Joke"!!! That shit was off the friggin' hook! I'll send it to you D$ and you can post it!

Also, got some Cypress Hill Video too, but the sound squelched so bad on my camera it's not worth posting.

After all these years of doing the ball with you guys I'm glad I was smart enough to get rest before the party and do a late dinner. I got there at 1:30am and missed the melee outside!

:pimp

Awesome night!

I'm telling you, I'm pretty on it, sometimes a plan gets fucked up when security get egos and take over their ideas upon us.

they don't give a fuck. thats the issue. they will be there tomorrow and the next day and the next day.

its not their party and they are getting paid the same regardless. these kinds of security teams actually make far less on nights like this because no one is willing to shove 200 bucks up their ass to get in. the las vegas club sceen people have a hierarchy and people tip to get into the front. these so called security companies care about money. they have zero incentive to make anything expedient. expedient doesn't get tips in their pocket.

bottom line and this is what i would suggest. do it at a venue that you control everything down to the electricity.

as soon as it started outside with the CF i wanted to leave, but i decided to stay and watch the clusterfuck because i thought i might be able to tell you what went down better. at this point you may know pretty good, but it was not pleasureable. instead of letting it ruin my night i decided to turn it into a recon mission.

once we got in, and the whole stage out of control thing got handled, i had a blast as soon as cypress hill hit the stage. when digital was up there it was painful to watch. so many people trying to be someone climbing on your stage. was sad to watch.

man cypress hill killed it.

wow. never seen them do it like that. they were 10 times better than street scene.

hey man, i'd love to talk to you someday too. i ahve been involved with clubs for over 10 years. been a promoter and Dj for most of it. i like to keep up with the folks that are parallel in the industry that i am. too bad we didn't run into each other.

D$
Just want to say thanks for another awesome party. The player's ball has always been a great event in my book, without any exceptions. This one topped them all for several reasons. The music was great (i loved seeing Cypress Hill), the atmosphere smelled wonderful, the babes were hot, business was productive, saw lots of old friends, met new ones and I gotta admit, I love the smaller crowds and the way they fill this new venue. The line outside wasn't even bad! Truly outstanding. Thanks again D and I really look forward to the next one!

Phil21 01-09-2005 02:05 AM

Hmm.. I wasn't going to post.

As a low-key sponsor (hey, we wanted to keep it this way) things definitely did not go as well as last year. Once you got inside it was great, but the problems with the door more or less made it unenjoyable for me due to one reason.

Clients.

Bottom line is companies do NOT sponsor these events to go party themselves. $10k can be better spent on partying ourselves at our own private room at nearly any club in town - if our goal was to just party as a company.

After about 30 minutes of arguing with venue staff, pushing through lines, etc. Myself and 4 other direct employees of mine (who luckily brought their Internext exhibitor badges that said Reflected Networks on them - the only way we got in.), finally ran into the door girl (D$'s wife? I think?) who was very nice and got us in as soon as she recognized us.

Up to that point, I was minorly annoyed but hey.. venue security can be a bitch and I was "prepared" for this. My concern was simply to get my customers in the door (literally 20-30 total people that are current Reflected customers who I met personally and handed their passes to prior to the show) so they could have a good time. My solution was to let myself stand out near security and point to people to get them in the door. I asked this politely, and was more or less told to get the fuck back or they were letting no one else in the venue at all until I left. Wtf?

I tried again, this time bringing ytcracker (this was NOT his problem to deal with, he was there on his own deal not with us - thanks for trying to help me out!) with me who had an artist's badge with him. We essentially got told the exact same thing, however this time luckily I spotted two of my customers in time and ytc got them in after about 10 minutes of arguing with the doorman until the red-coated lady came back and okay'ed it.

That was simply unacceptable, and talks w/ D$ "staff" were unable to resolve anything.

Again, the party was great once you got in. However, as a sponsor we sponsor these events for OUR CLIENTS (or prospects) - NOT for ourselves. We were entirely willing to spend the entire night out of the club, simply to ensure our clients made it in to have a great time but we were not allowed to do this.

I'm not talking crap, just trying to provide to folks a perspective from a smaller sponsor. D$ no doubt throws great parties, and I have a ton of respect for him - but the bottom line is when my clients are unhappy; I am. I didn't spend the money so I could go party with my co-workers - this is not what the conventions are about for us. Business first, fun second.

I'm not sure what could be done to resolve the issues, like D$ said the year previous was great and worth every dime we spent since our clients had an awesome time. This year I unfortunately cannot say the same thing. I think Sleazy more or less summed it up. Do whatever it takes to get your own security/door team in place who controls the doors. Even if it's just 2 or 3 people out by the door the entire night, pointing people out in the crowd. Also allow sponors a designated representative if they choose, to get people in who matter to them. When a sponsor hands out a pass, there should be a number of those passes GUARANTEED to get in the door and through any "lesser pass" waiting folks. I totally did not expect the entire pass count we issued to get in the door w/o hassle, as these events get huge. However I do expect a certain number of them whom I can personally waive in to get through w/o hassle to themselves, even if it means paying one of my employees to make sure they can get in.

I'm still collecting my thoughts about it all, as I have a few other situations to deal with at the moment. Sorry for airing anything public, but I'm pretty sure most everything is general knowledge.

D$ - great party, simply get the door issues straight and you'd have had an extremely happy sponsor again this year. I don't think any sponsors expect to be babysitted - simply find us a way to give us the tools for us to help you with this problem.

To all my clients who did get in - I hope you had a great time!

peace,

-Phil

She has a fractured foot. That's a bit much, IMHO. I also believe a couple of other girls were bruised.

HAPPYPEEKERS 01-09-2005 12:11 PM

We had passes from MensNiche.. Suite passes that Andy gave us .. and expected us to be able to get in with.. which we did not after 3 hours.

I had some man and his buddys RUN totally over me and almost knock me down in the line. If anyone heard or saw a very short, LOUD pissed off woman that was me lol
and after that.. they got in while we still stood there. It is all kewl though.
Just know that whoever you are that did that to me.. be very glad that I made my husband chill out... It took alot! :(

D$, was the chair that broke a bench? Lots of folks threw alot of weight down on the only bench not reserved for the playa's...it was next to stairs to go down...it took a load.

Thanks for a great PB! Next time I will get the players card..VIP paper sucked :-)) But security spotted me and pulled me inside, I was impressed :-)

How can you top this event D$, your best yet by far :-)

This year it was pretty easy to move throughout.

Wish I could have stayed all night... but I had something I had to do.

Thanks again for putting yet another one together.

I was wondering where you were running off to. I had to go to my suite in Mandalay to grab my Player's Cards. I looked around for a bit when I got down, but you, Tim, Rich, and that other guy were MIA.

so, no slam meant against D-Money or the Player's Ball with regards to this incident

Sykk, please give your wife my best... I am sorry to hear of her injuries... I was standing Next to your wife and have the bruises to show how UN-elite some folks truly are... I suppose it IS possible that when this person began SHOVING his way thru the people standing outside, he did not realize that there was a concrete wall about knee height on the other side of the people he was SHOVING... We had a great time after we got in. Was hard to get the bouncers attention even with the players cards. We had to keep yelling that we were sponsoring.

And sleazy, sure you might have been with a sponsor, and had to go on stage, but your a big boy, lots of people were getting pretty crushed when you started walking thru. I had to push a couple guys back so some ladies didn't get killed.

I hope so.

Did anyone see this? Was it just too many people trying to sit on it or deliberate vandalism? :(
