Does link color affect sales?

does the color of a link affect how many people click it and join ?

I learned in psychology that certain colors put people in certain moods.

like green makes people happy which is why cities put parks around the city because tress/green subconciously make the citizens happy.

http://www.profitjump.com/articles/0712-colors.html
http://psychology.about.com/library/.../aa031501a.htm

do you think if you changed the color of your link on you page for a month your sales would rise/fall ?

I'd think choosing the color that makes the link stand out the most would be more effective than how it makes the surfer feel.

Used to be that they would not click as many text links unless they were hyperlink blue. But now most surfers have gotten used to them being all sorts of colors. I usually go with something that stands out on the page, so that they are sure of what it is.

That is an interesting question. I am thinking of making 4 or 5 different join banners
the same but different colors and rotating them and keeping track.

You will need to test them for awhile to conclude anything though.

A red link can make it appear that you are trying too hard to push the sale and drive away customers.

Well red has been described as causing two emotions when sales are involved. Either it's a call to action...or it's an alert that maybe someone is trying to make the sale too hard. Kind of a double edged sword. If it works where you have it...stick to it.

color should not matter.

all links are created equal.

End "linkism."

Don't judge a link by the color of its skin.

Linkism sucks

I tend not to use purple as it is the default visited link color. A surfer may think they have already been to the site and won't click it again. And in most cases you want to leave the link underlined so that the dumb surfers realize that ENTER is really a link.

Absolutely.

From my experience, it makes the greatest difference at the (psychological) 'edges'.

ie. A really 'bad' link color (invisible, hardly legible with background, irritating effect like blue on red) will hurt a surfers attitude.

Conversely, a consistent color scheme which asserts some sense of style can help instill a perception of quality of the site - if it looks sharp and coordinated, it certainly won't hurt.

As far as psych colors (passifiers vs coolers), my experience has not shown dramatic differences in sales.

I have experienced dramatic increases in sales when the text points on action pages were simplified and contrasting colors where used sparingly to make it easy to identify what to click to actually sign up.

Colors are very important and have an effect on the surfer... link colors depend on the background color like in the above example, purple background and yellow or ornage link works real cool.

On black background the most outstanding colors are red, white, yelloe and lime green which work for me.

Just my
