Would you see Clockwork Orange/Gangster Film?

If there was a new film out in the movies that had a few Gut-Wrenching but somewhat corny scenes like A Clockwork Orange mixed into a gangster film, would you see it? If a friend told you about something really crazy he saw in a film that you never scene before would you feel compelled to watch it?

Reason I ask is I am finishing up a script and meeting with Financing studios next week. I know if I take out the Clockwork Orange type scenes the movie will be much more mainstream but maybe the controversy alone will help the film do better.

Theres no rape scenes by the way, all though I was tempted to add one. And also nothing is shown. Like in one scene the lead character enters an apartment of one of his gangster friends and there is a guy cutting up a body in the bathroom. You see a foot and a guy sawing for a second or two but the rest of the time all you hear is the "sound" of the sawing as he sits in the living room conversating. Any thoughts would be appreciated on how you feel about films that can get alot of "walk outs" at the theater.

I hate gangster movies. They don't appeal to me.

I'm of the believing that walkouts at the theater will lead to walk ins of the intended audience

Kind of reminds me of that scene in the beginning of Scarface where that guy is cut to pieces with a chainsaw..

The world does not need another gangster movie. Do something original.

Clockwork Orange is one of my top 5 favorite movies, along with another Kubrick classic, Dr. Strangelove, so it's hard to imagine you talking about parts of it turning off audiences. I understand what you mean totally, just hard apply it to my life. I think writers should cater to "my" demographics more! Niche baby, niche!

Clockwork Orange is a "chef D'Oeuvres" I doubt it could be remade. It's a one of a kind movie.

I studied filmaking in College and that is one of the first movie we had to write a paper on ... Great flick

Sounds interesting bro...My opinion to you...

Do what you think makes the film more realistic. Trust me, while pitching a script to an executive, if thats the only part he doesn't like, then you can change it while talking to him(or come up with different alternatives)...

If your whole movie is based around those scenes, then of course you don't want to take it out.

You wrote it how you want to see it made. Leave it in. If the exec's turn you away just because of that part, then chances are you don't want them to produce it anyways...

I've been involved in cinema for almost ten years now...mostly acting, but last few years I've been in the director and writer chair. Currently I'm film school, afterwards I have an internship set up with a foreign film director whos name I don't want to mention on this board.

If you want to chat, hit me up on icq, 93665589, or email me: [email protected]

If you're script is registered/copyrighted and you want me to read it for ya, I'd love to. I enjoy reading scripts and giving feedback. Anything I can do to help out a fellow filmmaker!

And don't for one second think that your movie is going to get walked out on in theaters. If its produced, it has to be of some good quality, esspecially if its played in theaters.

Think of Passion. Don't tell me its going to be more gut wrenching then Passion. In media, any controversy is good controversy. His film grossed more then $500 million...

I honestly don't believe it would have done as well if he didn't make it so gory. We can discuss this later if you want.
