NASCAR drivers use drifting as a matter of course in racing. I think it's funny that the younger, import crowd has decided to make an entirely new sport out of it. lolDiaperedOnline.com - Yup. It's diaper fetish.Comment

That is just crazy. I think that there is a little bit of skill in it, but it's so easy to lose it.Comment

i didnt say they were racing man. I said they were drifting. I think the whole point of the video is them showing off their drift skillsOriginally posted by MrJackMeHoffThats not drift racing thats just road racing.. Drift racing is ultra wide tracks in a circle.Comment

But they're definitely drifting. Drifting is basicly getting your car sideways down a road, and going fast speeds around corners.Originally posted by MrJackMeHoffThats not drift racing thats just road racing.. Drift racing is ultra wide tracks in a circle.Comment

Drifting is actually very easy. Most people just think it's difficult, because they freak out and think the car is gonna tip over.DiaperedOnline.com - Yup. It's diaper fetish.Comment

well it does need some skill mate, and thats for two reasons, one is if you have a not so powerful car you need to know what to do and where, otherwise you'll only make a joker out of yourselfOriginally posted by CondorDrifting is actually very easy. then when you actually start drifting you need to keep the steering wheel in such a way so that the car wont flip its tail. Its not hard, but its not something i'd want to do at such speeds!Comment

Funny all the domestic guys knocking drifting. Drifting's been around since the early 80's in Japan. NASCAR drivers don't drift, they draft. Maintaining control of a car that is out of control on a constant grip surface requires rediculous ammounts of skills if you want it to look at all smooth and profesional. Heel-toe, clutch kick, downshift, weight transfer, counter steer, give the e-brake a tiny yank (if you need to), all within a 2 second time frame.
Then do it all again for the next corner (it's even better if the wheels dont regain traction between two corners.)
I like some of the guys here saying it takes no skill to do though, claiming they were doing it back in the day when imports were still just economy cars. You weren't drifting, you were using power-over. Go into the corner, floor the gas at the apex and counter steer on the way out. No skill there. The real trick lies in having the car completely sideways before you even enter the corner, then maintaining the racing line, clipping the apex, and emerging from the corner with the car facing the direction it should be to maintain the smooth motion of the drift.
People who knock imports = In denile. People who knock drifting = need to go to a drift event and see it in person. Drifting in video's does not do drifting justice. Much like drag racing, a 10 second car on TV is boring, a 10 second car when you're at the track is awe-inspiring.

In that video you can see them using the e-brake near the end

There are two ways to start a drift. The first is the clutching technique. When approaching a turn the driver will push in the clutch and shift his car into second gear. Then rev the engine up to around 4000-5000 rpm (it all depends all the model of the car being used) and then slightly turn away from the turn and then cut back towards it hard while at the same time popping the clutch and causing the rear wheels to spin. At this point the drifter has a loss of traction and is beginning to slide around the curve. Now comes the hard part. You have to hold the drift until the next turn. To do this you must keep your foot on the accelerator while at the same time adjusting your car with the steering wheel so you don't spin out. It's not as easy as it sounds. Then as the drifter reaches the end of the turn and approaches the next turn which is in the opposite direction he must cut the wheel in that direction and in some cases, if the previous drift was to slow and they start to regain traction, they must pop the clutch again to get the wheels spinning. And that is how you drift a rear wheel drive car.The second technique is used by a few drifters in rear wheel drives, but is the only way you can really drift a front wheel drive. You have to use the side brake. A front wheel drive can not whip it's tail out because the tires are being driven in the front as opposed to the rear. So when approaching a turn you pull the side brake to cause traction loss. And the rest is pretty much the same except that it's much harder to take more than one turn with a front wheel driver
