Holly shit! No joke guys!
I was planning on taking a mini-vacation this week down to florida and spend some time with my dad.
I was also doing my pop a favor and was going to drive his Denali (which is just coming off lease) back from his house and drop it off at the Dealership in Toronto (where I live).
So anyways I book a one way flight to Orlando and throw all my bags in the car and off to the airport I go.
I arrive with plenty of time at Pearson Airport in Toronto and pick up my ticket from the ticket desk. I go to customs and after about 20 minutes in line get to the customs desk. He asks me a few questions like where I am going, how long, yada yada!
Then says we will need to speak to you in this office. I go into the office and wait for another 25 minutes for a customs inspector to come talk to me.
I finally go in and talk to some fat ass customs inspector and he asks me about 10,000 questions.
Where does my dad live?
How old is he?
Is he a US citizen or on visa?
Where are the papers to my dad's truck which I am driving back?
Am I employed?
Am I carrying any money on me?
Fuck this guy went on forever and went through my bags with a fine tooth comb! He finally comes back and says we will need the following:
- bills to prove "I" am a Canadian citizen (even though I had a valid ontario's drivers license, birth certificate and 10 other pieces of ID infront of him)
- papers for my dad's truck (lease agreement, ownership)
- exact address of where I am staying at that night and every night I am in the US
- all my dad's info and confirmation FROM HIM that I am staying with him
THIS IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT!!! I have travelled to florida about 6 times in the last 10 years and have flown to about 25 different countries all across the globe and have never had anything more demanded out of me than "are you declaring anything?"
I do not have a criminal record, i do not have any incidents whatsoever with customs in any of my travels and am otherwise a pretty model citizen.
The asshole said we are refusing your entry in the US for these reasons and until you can come back with these documents we cannot allow you to enter the US.
I packed up and went back to the ticket gate and guess what? My ticket is non-refundable!!! The ticket lady said this happens all the time now and is all thanks to the attacks on sept 11. She said any young guys who travel alone, are going one way and book very close to departure always get a hassle with customs now and a lot do not get on the plane!
OK I understand that the US customs agents are taking extra precautions but JESUS! Needless to say I am calling to complain to customs and hopefully negotiate my money back on my ticket from the airlines.
Sorry to rant for so long but I have never seen so much bullshit in my entire life! Thanks again Mr. Bin Laden, I have now been laid off and had my vacation cancelled because of you! FUCKER!!!
