Basic AOL setup page?

Someone told me her browser opens to the basic AOL opening screen setup. Does AOL have a different browser? What's the url to their homepage?

I think it's www.AOL.com/members/setup but click on it to find out. If you have AOL, it should take you to the setup screen, If not it will default to the main page with instructions.

The AOL browser opens at what ever your home page is set to in explorer... You can also set the AOL browser to be opened as defualt instead of explorer or which ever you use.

So if you hit a link somewhere other then in another browser, like a program or from a local file, it will open aol's browser instead.

Is that what ya were asking?

No, I meant which is the default homepage for AOL users. So if someone has AOL, I assume the IE homepage is also set to some AOL page? Or if not, in the AOL browser which is the default homepage?

Explorer is the default homepage. AOL uses explorer for alot of stuff like that. Do you have AOL.. You can see What I mean..

Go to Prefrences and Then WWW. It will Pop up the Explorer Internet Prefrences Window and just use it instead of having a seperate page for itself.

Alot of little things are like that but thats AOL trying to stay away from conflicts between the two. Even though AOL causes alot of conflicts anyways.

AOL has a default screen that can never be closed (only minimized) which loads every time you run AOL. It has the latest news headlines, weather, etc., all the things you would expect from a startup page. It's a lot like that annoying window that pops up every time you start ICQ, alerting you of their newest Britney Spears community or whatever.

The AOL browser is very similar to Internet Explorer, except some JavaScript doesn't run properly in it (like bookmarking pages or blur consoles for pop-unders), and stuff like mailto: links don't work because AOL has proprietary e-mail. But if you click the "home" button it will take you to the homepage you have set in IE, which I think by default is AOL.com.

That just might be it! Any idea of the url of that page? I know it would not be visible as in the address bar of IE, but maybe you can see somewhere?

I have no idea... it's not really a browser window that pops up, there aren't any back or forward buttons or anything like that, it's just a little window that has links and graphics and all kinds of crap. I don't have AOL but I've used it enough times to know how it works. Maybe you should download a free trial and check it out?

That AOL homepage has to be the worst of all news / ISP homepages out there. It pretty much serves no purpose but to sell ads. And who the hell still formats for 640 x 480?

Up to $1.15 for an email

This is what someone tells me. Looks like he's using the AOL browser - is it the popup screen or something else? How could he hide the news etc? Any idea what exactly this is -

The VERY top orange bar said "America Online" in the upper left.
Below that it has AOL options File, Edit Window Sign Off, Help
Below that are categorioes like email Read, Write, and other basic AOL
functions and services.
Below that is a line to type URLs in.
Below that is kind of a big void. It USED to have AOL's news of the day, etc,
but I hid that.

tell your friend when she connects to AOHELL, that after the AOHELL homepage/portal thingy pops up, minimize it to the system tray and double-click that big, giant E on the desktop.

love
