ZoneAlarm, the free edition software firewall is great. It locks down your connection so that even if an app gets installed on your system somehow, it will have to ask permision to dial out. (ZoneLabs.com)

I also have a hardware firewall in my router, and use Ad-Aware and Spybot weekly too.

www.mozilla.org - no shit. I had friends and family members who had crap all over their computers. I cleaned it out, installed mozilla, told them to only use that in future, and no problems from there on in.
