    Need your help - Earthquick, Asia

    As most of you probably have seen a major earthquick struck Asia, and tsunamis struck the cost of Phuket - Thailand.
    My parents are overthere on vacation in Phuket Thailand. On the local news overhere they told the local governement overhere has setup a crisis centre for people who have relatives overthere (like myself). I called that crisis centre and so far they don't have any news because they can't make any contact with hotels/resorts in Phuket.
    I wonder if any of you know a resort called "Disit resort", by the cost of Phuket and if anyone knows if that resort is close to the beach or if anybody has any news concerning that area or resort.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    The ministery of foreign affairs overhere told me it will probably take up to 3 days before they have any news about my parents.

      Jesus Christ. My buddy is over in Thailand right now with his wife's family. How hard were they hit there? I believe he is somewhere near Bangkok right now?

          Are you sure it's DISIT and not DUSIT?
          http://www.dusit-laguna.com/ is in Phuket.
          I found pretty much no references to DISIT, but ofcourse that might all just be the same.

          It does look like it's right next to the water as well though.
          I hope they were visiting some inland stuff man :|

                          Check CNN/BBC/whatever man. I don't believe Bangkok was hit. It was an undersea earthquake which caused a 30ft high tidalwave.

                                                      lots of toursits are dead , there are over 4000 dead in total, there were also something like 70 divers who were under the water when the earthquakes and tidal waves struck that are now missing

                                                                  Thx so far people, i got the telephone nr of the resort they are/where in. Lines are all dead at the moment. If anybody gets intouch with somebody he knows overthere could you PLEASE ask if they know anything about the DUSIT RESORT. I don't think i can take it to wait three days to get some news from my local governement.

                                                                  Seems that they lost all contact with the area my parents are in.

                                                                              Just a little tip that can give you more insight in their possible situation:

                                                                              If you can find out where and from what side the tidal wave actually came to the peninsula...
                                                                              The resort where your folks were, lies on the other side of the peninsula then Phuket city.... It could be that because they were on the other side, they had not much trouble with the wave...

                                                                                  From the information i have got at the moment they where at the "Bang Thao Beach" wich was said to be hit pretty hard. For the moment i don't have any other information whatsoever...... one would think that after more then 10 hours relatives should have some news about their loved ones. This waiting is harder then i expected it to be.

                                                                                              Yeah, alot of reports are contradicting...... cnn and bbc so far didn't report anything about Bang Tao itself, just the whole coastline. Would appreciate it if you talk to one of the people you know overthere and throw inb a quick question. Maybe if they know where they have resided the tourists that survived it, i think they would put them all together somewhere in a school or something. If anybody else can contact someone overthere i can give my parents name and full info on icq.

                                                                                                  From what i have heard Jakarta is fairly safe. Those are all just unconfirmed reports though.

From the map it looks like the hotel is in the worst possible location, the eastern side has probably been more sheltered from the waves. Phuket so far reports 20 dead foreigners. Wish I could get you some more positive news.

                                                                                                              Man hope they are ok, but as someone who went through 3 hurricanes in FL last year. When something like this happens communications are hard to come by even in the the US. So I could only imagine how hard they are to come by over there. Just keep us posted.

The ministery of foreign affairs uphere called me that they believe that the resort they are has been fully destroyed as it is close to the beach and right where the tsunami struck the coastline.
                                                                                                                              Right now i think i'm at the point where i need to pack my bags and try to get a flight into Phuket, the airport is fully operational again.
                                                                                                                              Does anybody know resident people overthere who may have a spare room? I don't think i will be able to find any hotel right now close to the area i need to be. I can give my phone number and full info thruw icq.
                                                                                                                              My local governement sais they can't forbid me to go but strongly advice to stay at home and deny any help for me to get there.

You will just be another distressed foreigner who is making the local rescue operations even more difficult. There are thousands of western tourists in Phuket, and the large majority of them will be fine. I'm sure that within 1-2 days your parents will have a possibility to contact you.
                                                                                                                                  However, if you have a medical background it might make sense to go.

                                                                                                                                      Man I think you would have a really hard time finding any sort of place to stay there. I know you have to do what you feel you have to do. I honestly don't think there is anything you can do to change anything at this point. It might be the best thing to wait a day or two and see what happens.

                                                                                                                                          Local news uphere reports about 60 tourists upthere (from our country), 17 have been found, all others still missing and 2 dead. Right now i don't have any hope at all anymore.
                                                                                                                                          Best thing that can happen is that my parents saw the tsunami comming and are in the hills somewhere right now or at some roof of a hotel/building. Either way they need to get back home and i don't think they have papers/money/clothes or whatever if they survived.
