Some places are closed, some are open? Why? Who decides?

I have noticed today, that some franchises are open, and some are closed. Like McDonalds is open, but Jack in the box is closed. Do they not make enough money to give their employees a day off. Is it Greed. Is it Religion.

Just seems strange. StarBucks. I know they aren't making enough money. Give them a day off, why? They were all open today. I just don't understand.

Absolutely greed.
In my younger days I was a General Manager at Burger King. The only two paid days off we had were Thanksgiving and Christmas day but as years went on, they eventually stayed open on Thanksgiving and considered Christmas. All about greed.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas. I'm willing to bet 60% of fast food franchise owners are Muslim, Bhuddist or belong to other religions that could care less. The other 40% are greedy and care nothing about any holiday that keeps it's business open.

I guess you guys are right. All boils down to Greed. While they are home enjoying their millions with family, they have slaves running the forts. Just Crazy if you ask me.

I guess we are crazy too. All my internet sites are open 24/7 365 days a week.

Yup, it's the big question, Is it economically viable to be open on X-mas? Will there be enough business to offset the costs of double time etc. Personally I wanted a pizza today as I didn't have all the needed ingredients at home and I had the family dinner last night. Unfortunetly nothing was open and I had to settle for Kraft dinner. That sucked....

Most of our sav-ons were closed, as I was driving into a different town, a CVS was open. I felt bad that there were people actually working. But I have to thank them, I got what I needed. But I still felt bad.

It's a great government conspiracy. The shit you'll possibly want/need isn't available which forces you to go to different places so that the government gets their giggles.

Seriously.

As a side note to this conversation, most employees that are working on national holidays get double-time pay or whatever you call it. So, they get twice as much as a regular day.

I wonder even with the sales drop if it's worth keeping those places open on christmas? Doesnt make much sense to me. But while greed is a factor with the owners, It all just boils down to buisness. I'm sure those guys get paid extra for their hours.

a long time ago I worked in a small store just outside of a small town. They stayed open on christmas ( I didn't have to work the owners did ) and chirstmas , they said, is always thier busiest day of the year because there were no other stores in town open so everyone came to them to get the last minute stuff. They would do about 3 times thier normal business on christmas.

I thought it was the social acceptance with a mixture of greed. any business would want to be open as often as possible. But 30 years ago people wouldnt go to McDonalds on christmas so it wasnt profitable, now a days, shit, staying closed would be shooting yourself in the foot.

When I used to work at McDs, Christmas was the only day of the year we were closed. We closed 4 hours early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve as well (at 8 PM). And those shifts were filled with volunteers before they scheduled staff.

I worked a closing shift on Christmas Eve once. It was a pretty fun shift, actually.
