Why do guys sell porn?

Tip of the hat to slappass for making me think of this question. I know that the path I took to get to this business was kinda offbeat and not the way most folks got here. I know a lot of you all hide where your adult internet incomes comes from when interacting with people outside the industry and sometimes from those within it.

So I'm wondering what makes a smart tech-literate guy who could get paid doing something else get into this potentially embarrassing biz.

Does it have to do with sex drive, age, education, access to wild women, the excitement of the shame, what?

To tell you the truth I don't think there are that many smart people on this site to start with. There are always smart people in every sort of biz, but we have a lot of people who couldn't hold a real job, have a criminal record, don't want to work at mcdonalds type of people in this biz who think they'll get rich quick being the fuckup they are.

Just thought I would share a little holiday spirit there!

I could make money in a real job, work my way to the top, work 9 to 5, spend a couple of hours on the way to work, have a boss, all that bullshit and a lot more stuff that I would hate, I would feel miserable and hate my life. So, I sell porn. I need money to live the life I want, and this is an easy way to earn it.

If it were as easy to make money in mainstream I'd probably go that route, but unfortunately it's not.

Work is too unpredictable. You never know when you will get laid off... Mostly I want to "retire" next year in that I will be making the same amount of money from online sources as my day job pays. I started of by building vanilla sites and am making money from them and rentacoder.com . I The next logical step is porn. I also like the idea of other people paying me to see my porn, instead of me paying...

I think it applies equally to the talent and of course it goes without saying that it doesn't apply to every single person. But as a generalization it does apply to a large group, if not a majority. Alot of them have nothing else or are too lazy to do anything else so they get in this biz thinking they can get rich doing almost no work.

I do think there are a signifigant portion of people in this biz that are scum of the earth type. There in every biz where there's money but there are a lot of them in this one since it requires virtually no start up money.

The only way to get rich in this country is working for yourself. When you're 18, broke, only have a high school education, no credit history and limited resources... Adult just seemed like the way to make money. Plus, SEX sells, it doesnt matter if the economy is up or down.. sex will always sell.

I always thought a lot of the designers and coders got into this business around 2000 when the dot com bust happened.

Before I sold porn I thought I liked it. But I can not stand most porn. I do it for the money. I backed into and the money was too good to quit. Still is. I do mainstream and some other stuff so if it ever dies I am ok. But in the mean time I will keep making bank.

I was an air traffic controller before I started in this biz. I dont really like porn and I dont care to hang out with people in the porn biz. But what I do like is the fact that I havent set an alarm clock in almost 8 years, I make excellant money, I work from home, and I only work when I feel like it. Its kind of like being semi-retired.

I grew up around it. My grandfather owned a few porn shops here in Philly. When he died my father took over and we lived in an apartment above one of the stores. He added to the bussiness. when he passed on I took over because no one else in the family wanted anything to do with it. I expanded the biz to other states as well and spent alot of time in fricken courts all over the damn place fighting all sorts of dickhead laws and DA's who need a good ass raping. when the internet came along it just seemed like the next move, evolve or die.
