If you never plan on having a full time job as a career

working for someone else, then how important is a post secondary education? is it better to learn on your own on a need to know basis or have it forced down your throat in college/university?

Education is always important, there are some naturally important people, people who read, learn, etc on their own. But aside from that its pretty easy to see who has an education and who doesnt based on how they talk and present themselves. YTou might never use the actual info you learn, but it does serve a purpose.

I consider it a fall-back. The chances of making it as a business or self-employed are against you so if you do have to go back to the work force, it's nice to have.
