That last statement is either not true or your reviewing faulty as I saw several of those LAST week freshly listed on your Yellow pages.

I'm not making this up I saw what I saw maybe it was a mistake on yoru part but I saw at least 3 of those type of galleries.

Maybe they slipped through the cracks or where altered after getting listed but facts are I saw them there.

If it was a mistake though I apologise for the remark I made earlier.

I think you guys are missing the point. The Hun said that he was NOT banning galleries based on the counters (yet). He wants a discussion about the tactics used by counter companies to force clicks on the counters.

Personally, I use a counter on most of the galleries I post. It's not invisible, but it's not right up there with the thumbs either. I don't say "only a counter, don't click" as that is against the TOS of the counter itself. As far as I know, there is only one TGP that currently doesn't list a site with a counter. For them I use a server side script just so I can see if they linked the gallery or not. They don't send any confirmations so I need to know if I'm wasting my time by posting there. Simple.

The reason I don't use that script on every gallery and leave it at that is two-fold. 1)The logs grow at an insane rate when listed at several places at once. 2)It's a load on the server that I don't want on every page even though it's a php script.

Some counters don't load, some are slow, some break etc. I put the counter at the bottom of the page, so if it doesn't load, the page loads anyway even though the icon is still spinning, the surfer can click the links etc. I know exactly how many clicks I get on that counter...it's nowhere near 10 in 10 minutes, even with a nice listing on The Hun's site. It's more like 30 or 40 a month, while averaging 100-150k uniques a day.

I think many of The Hun's concerns can be addressed by placing the counter in a location such that it doesn't look like a part of your gallery. If it looks like a thumb and it's near the other thumbs, it will get clicks.

While I applaud The Hun's one man campaign to clean up the way people advertise, I also think he needs to realize it's their decision to do so. If he doesn't like it, he can take his remedies (and he does) and it's up to you if you want to play by his rules or not.

I also know that if YOU take the measures necessary to avoid what The Hun doesn't like, you can get listed using almost any sponsor. His sandbox, his rules, but he also recognizes legitimate efforts to make a dollar.

Obviously, the final "clarification" is up to The Hun himself. I'm sure you'll know if the counter(s) are banned...he'll make it clear on the submit page, or you'll get a rejection email stating why.

Hm... would have been nice if that guy would have walked up to me in Amsterdam to tell me that. At least then we could compare uglyness to see if he's right ;-)

Anyway, the non-blind SexTracker counter on my site got 1484 clicks yesterday. That's not counting a full day (missed about 2 hours or so). I'll write some regular submitters to see if we can do the same test on a counter. What I'm trying to find out is if there's really no way for counter companies to make money on a non-blind counter. After all, they do have their webmaster ads (SexTracker sends out this newsletter with ads, which is a good service and a good way to make money), so I don't think they need those blind ads to survive...

Okay, I'm here because Hun recommended that I come here to read this discussion about the bind banners. I now understand the problem. But there is something that I've missed--the solution. I want my galleries listed on The Hun's Yellow Pages--what do I have to do? I'd like a counter to track my stats and referrals, if possible. Additionally, I use free hosts. Direct, and I shall follow. To me, it is a small price for me to pay to submit a good quality gallery for listing in trade for the massive amount of traffic I get--more than fair if you ask me. Hell, I'll bend over backwards for a trade like this, y'all.
