The abbreviation of Xmas for Christmas is not irreligious. The first letter of the word Christ in Greek is chi, which is identical to our X. Xmas was originally an ecclesiastical abbreviation that was used in tables and charts.

        Mostly correct...

However, the first letter of the word Christ throughout history (and even today) is not soley chi, but chi super-imposed at the center with the Greek rho (similar to P) to form chi rho.

The X alone was first used alone for ease in the early days of printing.
