I got a check today from a sponsor and there's a tiny tear in the top right corner where there's no writing or numbers and I'm just wondering if a bank would still accept it or if it's invalid now. Does anyone know?

In my experience, it isn't a problem. Probably depends on your bank though.

I can't imagine a bank not taking it if none of the banking information is missing.

I have cashed tons of checks with tears (I seem to be retarded when opening an envelope) and have never had a problem. Make a copy of it just in case it gets "lost" in the automation crap, but I really doubt that will happen.

you will be fine. I accidentally ripped off the top left corner of a check once (with the name, address, phone, etc), taped it back on, and still had no problem cashing it

For some reason I ALWAYS spill coffee and/or wine on them

Never had a problem, and some have been a real mess

I accidently managed to tear a cheque in half while opening the envelope (Don't ask, i still haven't figured out how). The bank still accepted it.

As long as the amount and routing numbers are intact they will take it...

It probably has a "tear" on it cuz he was crying when he wrote it

me too - but this is also an example of why establishing relationships with your banker is so important - then when small problems arise, they are easily handled, and do not become 'emergencies'
