I think ugly has its place the same as fancy... depends on where and how it's used... however, ugly makes for not such a nice looking portfolio at the end of the day.

Yeah, thats what I thought, the uglier my site, gallery whatever the better it seems.

Paint up some really hot-looking title graphics and banners for any site and you don't need the flashy-flash stuffs. Look at my site http://www.sunsetbeachbabes.com/ sometime, it's looks pretty flashy, but when you take away my graphics and basic design/layout/color scheme it's just another free site with some picture galleries of some nude babes. It damn well makes me money every day though. I won't win any awards for it, but it's all mine.

brav, I try to maintain a combination of both ugly and fancy, but nothing too extreme in either direction... good looking stuff works, but should not be confused with overly unnecessary "bells & whistles" as CD put it... that stuff just bogs down the site and ends up causing more stress over whether or not it's functioning in this browser or that browser... so, having said that... I do have quite a few absolutely bare bones ugly sites, but also some that would graphicalliy blow your mind... (don't know if any of that made sense or not.... I'm just wingin' it here)...

I agree with both CD and Amp. By the way Amp, I would love to see one of your sites that "would blow my mind", I don't doubt it, from what I've seen from little snippets, I think you have an awesome talent. You could ICQ or email if you don't want to publicize any sites here.

I think it depends on if you're only looking for $$ or if it's your baby (so to speak). If it's a hobby, ya wanna make it look good (I would wanna)...and if it's for $$$ purposes only...make it to load quick& easy so they spend more bucks!
Make TGP galleries ugly, make your paysite look good...that's how I would do it, personaly. |

Ugly is a relative term. When I look at a site or a gallery, I go with my gut feeling as to whether the newbs will be motivated to click the sponsors. The clean professional galleries and sites that have "nice but not too nice" pics leave me wanting to see what the hell they're going to do next, thus I'm motivated to click. But the really amateurish and crappy designed pages make me want to move on to the next gallery no matter who the sponsor is. I think a lot of people perceive that the more professional a site looks the better the quality of content they'll offer. It isn't necessarily true, but that's the way it is in general.
When I say amateurish, I mean tables that aren't leveled, layouts that looked scattered, broken images, text that's all over the place etc etc. |
