Why do Amex CC settlements take longer than Visa/MC?

Just wondering Visa/MC shit after batch settlement take 2 days to hit bank account. Amex always takes longer. Any idea why?

They are pretty quick with my account but what I want to know is why do there statments look like they have some guy folding them and stuffing into the envelopes. They are always lopsided and the folds are in angles.

The reason is that AMEX and Discover do not have the same direct banking relationships that Visa and MasterCard have. That might change soon. I have noticed MBNA is now issuing an Amex card.

Or it could be they like your money a little more and want to hold it close a little longer.

I know when I was in retail it always took forever for AMEX settlements.

Reason being AMEX is a charge card, not a credit card. You don't get paid until the customer pays their AMEX bill.

That's why alot of places don't take AMEX.

Amex tries to side with the seller whereas Visa tries to side with the cardholder. This is why Amex is cool when you are accepting $ but is a potential nightmare when you use it and have a dispute.

Juicy,

Always been that way as long as we have had merch. accts over the years.

I get visa/mc deposits in 1-2 days, Discover 2-3 days and amex is always like 4-5 days or so.

I don't think your statement is accurate. Our Amex settlements come in after 3 business days. The customer paying their Amex bill has nothing to do with it.

I was just pointing out that's the way it was when I was in retail.

That's been several years now.

This was before AMEX had actual "credit cards" like they do today.
