Windows 2000 is by far the best Windows ever. When I bought my new computer I ordered it without an OS so I wouldn't get stuck with shitty XP.

It's either your laptop or a program conflict, it's not xp itself.

XP NEVER crashes on me. I would format that sucker and start from scratch. Or send it back to Dell and let them worry about it.

This is like saying that a movie sucks, because you can't watch it on your defective DVD player.

Antivirus programs suck. Uninstall it and I bet your problems might go away.

What's crashing, your browser? You might want to check if McAfee is blocking it through the firewall.

You got that right . If,, I say If you know what you are doing it is the best windows yet. Linux is cool because you can play with the source code. But XP runs all of the high end software.

I have no problems with winxp. Have you installed any new software? Is it brand new and nothing new installed? Try Netscape or Firefox?

I haven't had any issues with it at all. I have 2000 on my PC and XP on the laptop and they are both fine.

I agree, the bigger computer companies put so much shit on their systems it's unreal.

I bought an HP last year and I spent many hours going through what I really needed.

Oh, and good luck getting a seperate XP install disk from any of them. They want to force their software on you after each reinstall. I asked for an XP disk from HP and the tech told me, "You have no use for that."

Dell is know for that crap, I don't know how many I had to fix when I was doing repairs (just up to last year). Chances are you've got a hardware prob, perhaps some bad RAM.
Wait till you call their tech support, even if you know the exact nature of the problem they'll still run you through their god-awful service flowchart of hell. A friend of mine has spent 5 months trying to get his new Dell to work, and I know it's a blown CPU but they won't send him a new one, so far they've replaced his RAM, his hard drive and his video card. Supposedly next on the flowchart would be the CPU but now they have to send out their own on site guy to look it over. What a joke.
