Somehow the satchel seems very homely, and as you stare at it ? as you snoop the snooper ? it comes to embody the entire case. You imagine the perp as the homely sort of guy who carries such a homely sort of satchel ? he wears suits worn at the knees and elbows, he has thin hair that sticks to his head, his toes press out at the sides of his brown leather loafers.
