Help Me Thread---Linksys Router Admin

Firewall Settings Requirements:

For ICQ to successfully work behind a firewall the following system configurations must be set by the System Administrator for the systems network.

Client to server Communication:
This is done via port 5190 TCP to login.icq.com (please note- allow a bi-directional connection to the port for login.icq.com and not any specific IP address, since it stands for more than one IP address).

How do i do this?Open a port range?UpnP Forward?

I've had half a dozen linksys routers and I've never had to open ports up for any applications, including ICQ?

Client-to-server means outgoing connections, so I believe you don't need to configure that part, its just for strict firewalls.

You should try out Miranda instead of ICQ

question
I have a b linksy router, which completey sucks and is super slow.
was gonna upgrade to a G, now they have a even better one out.
skip G and go straight to the newest model? Or is G relitively fast?
Sounds like a silly question, but dont wanna spend the money without some good input. thanks.

Hey there.. UPnp forward should work - or you could also open up the port range both should work - recommend upnp though. Or if you really hate the firewall in you router just set your computer as DMZ host

Just do a port forward to the IP of your computer.

First goto status, list dhcp clients to see your network designated ip .. and just enter the port range u want forwarded to your pc.

I think I only had to open ports if I wanted to receive files via AIM or ICQ
