any tech people here? I need help. Booting problem.

I build all my own machines, so I kind of have an idea of what the problem is, but a 2nd opinion wouldn't hurt.

I have a P4 3.06 GHZ with 2 Hd's at 250 gigs each, and 1 gig of ram.

For no reason it seemed to just die today. It turned it self off and fought to come back on.

I shut it down for a few hours and switched to another machine. Then I came back to it and turned it on, and it booted a little slow, and when the Windows 2000 pro screen came on it loaded for a little while then rebooted itself.

Then it would just try to reboot. It would get to different points in the boot sequence and reboot.

Just thought I'd ask before I started tearing the damn thing apart.

The main problem is that the file system sucks NTFS and alot of motherboards are not supporting it perfect.

Mine either here, It sucks but i did life with it, Im having a shitload of corrupted data here and still after 1 year no SOLUTION!!!

Only solution is to make it a fileserver for linux then its working good.

http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc....popup_adp.php?<?%20print("p_sid=$p_sid&p_lva=$p_lva&p_li=$p_li") %20?>&p_faqid=903&p_created=1045153821

I had the same problems when i rebooted, i reinstalled windows and it worked 1 week again, i did this for 1 month, did replace to drive to 120gig and PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

its for sure the drives and i did talk to some friends working at computer stores and they are saying the same, only problems with 250GIG's they are getting data corruption and no solution, safe way is to get 120GIG's

NTFS is NOT the problem...

using a 250 GB IDE drive for your system drive is not a good idea.

been using NTFS since it's release and NEVER suffered any data corruption. regardless of mobo (or drive make).

If you need that much storage, you prolly should be on SCSI.

Yeah wasnt thinking it was NTFS, but im saying the combination of NTFS and this type of drives, why?

Install linux, use ext3 as file system, PROBLEM SOLVED!!! so explain that.
