When you make backup copies of your DVD (Movies)...

Do they work well?

There's nothing worse than being 2/3rds into a movie and have it freezing up, screeching and leeping 10minute gaps..

It just seems too good to be true.
I mean, invest $100 and never pay for a DVD again (sign up for BB online?).

not even $100, a dvd burner is somewhere around $50 and if you have a good enough hard drive your good to go, i burn them for freinds and family all the time ( the blockbuster movie pass is the best deal if you live close to one, if not netflix)

I am aware of the costs, but I mean $100 or less than.

But still, it just seems too good to be true. Sooner or later the movie industy will go on a rampage..

one of the drawbacks of burnin dvds is that they only hold 4.7 gigs so sometims you have to shrink the quality of the movie. Im pretty sure now with double layer dvd's though you can fit the entire dvd on with no probs. Theres nothing they can do to prevent this unless they find a way to outlaw the technology.

Whats the point?

VHS tapes can still be copied, no one ever did shit about that.
Sure they may try and fuck with it a little by encrypting them differently or use timeed dyes on the surface disks for rentals but in reality they most will likely suck it up and in 5 years we are gonna be looking at a new media lol....

Feel sorry for the people that have spent G's on DVD collections....including myself

yea dvds will soon be outdated, but unlike vhs they dont deteriate over time, and the quality is relitively good, the discs are 30 cents each and the work is minimal so even when they do become outdated not much will be lost

I dont think anyone has pointed this out so i thought i would....

The discs are only 4.7 GB...so what this means:

1) You can RARELY burn extras
2) Even if you leave out the extras you can RARELY burn at 100%....usually your tv isnt good enough to reflect this, but if you have a high def you'll definitely notice

Now, they are selling DL (Double Layer) discs...but i've seen them range between $10-$25 EACH...so might as well buy the movie....

When the DL disc prices come down in the coming years, thats when there will be some problems

There is one form of encryption that the pirates havent hacked yet but only a few movies use it and its just a matter of time....

Just like anything...its a constant cat and mouse game

They can't stop you from copying DVD's anymore then they could stop you from copying VHS movies.
