How long can a Cat live for without food and water? I need to know ASAP!...

I truly hope someone can offer some advice or has knowledge about this...

I have a friend who left me the keys to her apartment to feed her cats, she is currently in another city hundreds of miles away and won't be able to return until Tuesday night.

For each day I was suppose to feed them two times. Unfortunately when I went to try and open the door, it turned out she gave me the wrong key.

The cats were last fed on Friday night(exactly at midnight.)
Do you think they will resort to drinking out of the toilet bowl if the situation calls for extreme measures? They have not had a history of ever drinking out of there before though...


I don't know what I should do, I hope my friend doesn't come back home to her cats dead

if you really are worried find the superintendent of the building to let you in. if he doesn't trust you then ask him to go in and feed the cats.

but then I imagined them as humans, and even though humans can live for quite some time without food, one can only live for 2 days or so without any water...

Bullshit to ask how long they can last maximum without water. Food won't be a problem that fast, but water will be. Break open the door or have it done by a lock smith.

How much food and water did your friend leave them? I'll leave my cat for 2 nights maximum with about 3 bowls of dry food and lots of bowls of water. I would leave her longer but she gets lonely and bored!

Its a bad thing you dont have letter boxes, you could have posted some food thru the letter box!

P.S. If this story is true then please either A, call her and have her overnight you a copy of the real key or B, have her call her landlord to let you in. You said it was an apartment so it shouldn't be any trouble getting the super or property manager to let you in.

Get a hold of the super and explain the situtation to him. get a big bag of cat food and leave lots of it out for them as well as a big bowl of water and hopefully they'll be ok till then.

You'd think your friend would have gave you the right keys...too bad the cats have to suffer

Dont worry, cats are like snakes. If she feed them a lot before she left, they wont need to eat again for another 1 - 3 months.

Can you see them through a window? Hopefully the toilet seat is up....but, even so, cats hate water and generally won't risk falling in it....but if they are thirsty enough......

Definitely make plans to get into the house.....if she's gone until the coming friday...that's wayyyy too long.

weird, my dad was just telling me bout this story where this little kids kitten got stuck on some kinda power pole or something, and nobody could save it cuz the friggin power company wouldn't shut off the power and plus there was a big storm....apparently kittens can climb up things, but can't climb back down unless they got head first or something like that...anyway, the cat survived up there for like 3 days and 3 nights....but since there was a storm, it probably drank water off the ground....so yea...don't take a chance and go feed your friends cats!

I think you should contact your friend as soon as possible. The cats will survive but I don't think it's good for their helth.

I don't remember exactly, but on some site I read that some can was whout water and food for 17 days and it survived.
