Can someone with no knowledge of HTML retain the service of a web designer?

I have used countless web designers and for all of them, I had to edit the web page I paid for. Seems like the old days of buying from web designers "turnkey" sites where all you had to do is upload them into your server are gone!

I wonder if it is still possible to have no knowledge of HTML and retain the service of a web designer!

everyone codes differently, some code messy, some code clean and some just code for one browser compatibility. Any designers that I have had do stuff for me has given me code I had to edit too but more for personal preference. I like seeing code done a certain way.

I don't usually do web design, but occasionally i'll bust out some xhtml / css love for certain people, and i always make sure it's as clean and optimized as possible before handing it over, they don't have to edit it, but it's easy for them too if they just want to mod something small.

You get what you pay for ... if you pay extra to have everything pakaged perfectly and hire profetionals, you'll get near flawless results ... but if you hire cheap designers with no diplomas ... you get what you pay for

Not really. There are always things you need to tweak here and there. Of course, one could hire a web designer and also a regular webmaster to take care of the maintenance and whatnot.

I usually ask for 4-6 example of other sites the client admires before design. - And I do graphics, too.

On a scale of 1-10, I'm an 9, but I missplel a lot of wodrs.

Still old days with me and I upload the site for non-web clients. What do you mean that you had 'to edit the web page I paid for'?

fuck that, call me an asshole but I dont tell a designed that their job is done untill the site fits my needs exactly. If its not compatible in some browsers, fix it. If it needs to be tweaked, fix it. If it looks like shit the first time they did it, re do it.

On the flip side though, I wouldnt pay someone peanuts and expect all that. If someone designed a site for $200 I'd expect to have to do some grunt work, but if im paying good, I dont expect to have to even look at the code.

It's usually bad when you misspell misspell.

That's why a *cough* GOOD *cough* designer has 3 computers, running 16 different browsers.

However, I do not currently offer support for FireFox 1.0 for Mac OSX.

You can always hire someone else to do the HTML for you.

That's what I do, I know HTML perfectly, but I'm not the cleanest coder.

Interesting....I consider the two things apples and oranges....I hire a 'designer' for my graphics needs...I hire a website developer to do the html/coding/scripting etc......two different things IMO....

Don't know what to say. I put my files on a staging server and the client can ask for any tweaks. Once I send the zip file or upload to their server, I figure the job is done and my client was satisfied.

when I design shit i redo it til it is exactly what the client wants

i also email them proofs all along the design process, so that way I don't get too into it and they decide it isn't the way they wanted

shit, i probably can email up to 10-15 proofs along the way of designing something

I've noticed that more than a few designers are using webpage generators (such as FrontPage), which result in some of the most sloppy code you can imagine.
