"Krist Novoselic is still best known as the bass player in one of the most important and riveting bands of the 90's, Nirvana. But not for long. Oh, he'll always be remembered as part of Nirvana but after Nirvana was no more, Krist was just getting started. A principled and outspokenly progressive grassroots activist, Krist has been making himself known throughout Washington as a man who could make a real difference in government. Aside from playing the bass really well, Krist also pilots his own Cessna 182 Skylane jet really well. And, long a supporter of the same values as People For the American Way, Krist has offered to take a high bidder for a plane ride on his plane! In fact, he'll pick you up at a West Coast (Washington, Oregon, California) airport of your choice and fly you to a restaurant in a city of his choice, take you out to lunch and then fly you home again. He won't be teaching you how to fly but he will be talking to you about... well whatever you want to talk to a former member of Nirvana and a future Governor of Washington about! And you can bring a friend if you want to. Now, there are all kinds of restrictions on this prize that the government and our lawyers require. Easy ones are stuff like this can only happen during daylight hours and only in good weather (blue skies). But here's the stuff from the lawyers: "PLEASE NOTE THAT BEFORE participating in this activity, the successful bidder will be required to sign a "VOLUNTARY RELEASE OF LIABILITY, ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND ASSUMPTION OF RISKS, AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT" in which s/he will agree, among other things, to voluntarily assume the risk of any and all injury, illness, death, damage, loss, or harm that may in any way result from, or arise in connection with, the bidder's participation in the activity." If that didn't scare the bejesus out of you, start bidding. This is gonna be a hot one. And just to leave it on a high note, Krist sent us a message he wanted me to pass along: "I am happy to share the wonders of aviation and remind the winners to be careful during the most dangerous phase of the flight ? the drive to and from the airport!!!" Krist is making this great opportunity available to benefit People For the American Way, a non-profit non-partisan political organization committed to promoting political awareness, civic participation and providing legislators with the support they need to counter the agenda of the extreme right and protect against encroachments upon our freedoms and civil rights. We thank you in advance for helping support our organization?s important work. Please check out our other auctions, including lots of cool unique experiences like this one, that are going on now by visiting our ME page. Thank you. PAYMENT: PayPal or money order "

Though Krist Novoselic is best known for his role in Nirvana, his accomplishments go far beyond that remarkable achievement. Nirvana was a band with a conscience, one of the few major label acts to regularly played benefits -- the first Rock For Choice show, a major concert in support of gay rights, and a seminal gig that raised money for the Balkan Women's Aid Fund.

In 1995, Novoselic founded JAMPAC (Joint Artists and Music Promotions Political Action Committee), a proactive organization that advocated on behalf of Washington State's music community. Novoselic's work with JAMPAC helped Seattle club owners find ways to host all-ages shows, and was instrumental in helping to overturn the infamous Teen Dance Ordinance. And sometimes making music and making a statement go hand in hand, as when Novoselic, Soundgarden's Kim Thayil, and drummer Gina Mainwal backed Jello Biafra as the "No W.T.O. Combo" at a show performed during the World Trade Organization conference held in Seattle in 1999.

There have been other musical endeavors since Nirvana, as well as new causes (Novoselic is a strong supporter of electoral reform, an issue he writes about extensively on his website Fixour.us and in this book). The one constant is Novoselic?s desire to continue making progressive contributions to the community -- and to keep on making good music.

About the Author
KRIST NOVOSELIC was born in Compton, California in 1965 and grew up in Croatia and Aberdeen, Washington. He was a founding member of the legendary rock band Nirvana, and along with bandmates Kurt Cobain and David Grohl, Novoselic helped to change the course of music history in 1992 when Nirvana snapped up Billboard Magazine's number one spot with their highly acclaimed album Nevermind, which went on to sell millions of copies around the world. Nirvana opened the doors for a new generation of musicians and bands. After Nirvana, Novoselic went on to become one of rock music's most politically minded musicians. He has committed himself to numerous community projects and is now an influential political voice in Washington State. Of Grunge and Government is Krist Novoselic's first book, and he currently lives in Southwest Washington State.

Reminds me of a musician joke...

How many guitar players does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Six. One to screw in the lightbulb and five to say "I could do that."

The brilleance behind the music was the simplicity in the music yet how sincere it was. We were so tired of all the polished over mega riff's and 1 minute long solo's of the 80's glam/hair bands. Nirvana comes along and puts together some of the must influential music in rock with just basic power chords.

Pure raw emotion still gives me goose bumps to this day.

Check out Krist and the band drunk and high in an interview

Probably the 2 simplest songs to play on guitar or bass guitar yet there brilliant.
