How to Profit from owning a LinkList?
I run www.adultclips.net and I'm having trouble turning much profit with it. It's getting around 500-1000 uniques a day and I get credit for all paysite links. Yet I rarely make a sale with this site...any advice?

That's your problem right there, having 500-1000 hits.

You can't expect to even make 1,000 bucks a month with traffic like that... hell, you probably won't even make a hundred bucks a month. Build 10 sites a day.... submit them to link sites... add them to your own link site. Build 10 galleries a day... submit to at least 20 to 30 BIG traffic TGP's and as many small ones as you have time for. Link each gallery to your link site. After 6 months you should have a well stocked link site with a decent amount of traffic and you will be making money. There are no shortcuts in this biz anymore. You have to do a LOT of work and it takes time. ------------------ Make $$$ the Diabolical Way |

Replace your linksite with a full page ad with some free access sponsor on it. Your growth potential is zero but a least you make some $!

The Truth... I hate it when you're right! haha...
Well there are a lot of ways to make a single links site work... but the bottom line is that you need to send out more traffic than you take in -- which is very difficult... There's (about) two ways to do this... 1. trick the surfer... (hence the CJ site) 2. train the surfer to click as many links as possible by giving them free stuff... Most sites combine both 1 and 2... in theory a tricked surfer will never come back -- unless he is tricked again into coming to your site -- in which case he just closes the browser... so it helps to be trading with a lot of sites because you don't want to be circulating the same fucking people over and over again... Most free sites use some kind of formula for mixing the free shit with the tricky shit -- keeping this formula constant sortof gives the seasoned bookmarkers incentive to stay on your site... Well anyway I could go on forever about building the ultimate links site but there are a number of problems w/ having just one site... One thing that I've realized is that every time I change my main page -- I'm in essence losing all of the work that I did previous to that change... that's just something to think about -- I've always thought putting together some kind of magazine with issues -- so people could go through back issues of the site and see all the cool shit that just sortof got phased off the main page... Of course I've been too lazy to do this because I like having everything together in one neat package on one page -- it's more fun I suppose... If you want to know a secret -- the best way to get a links site working is to sacrafice for a while... use NO ads -- only link to the best sites with lots of good free content... Basically piss off every webmaster on the net... the surfers will come eventually but it's a lot of fucking work with no reward... eventually if you have enough volume you can mix some ads into your site... (this is just one strategy) I think it's always a good idea to have ads that don't seem like ads... make everything look coherent -- if something looks like an ad then he's less likely to click it... as Lensman told me once... if the surfer fells that he is clicking an ad -- he has already made a predetermined conclusion as to whether or not he will make a purchase -- a porno sale is an impulse buy... if you are very smart and resourceful -- you can make a sale and the surfer may actually be stupid enough to never know that he left your site... Ideally you want your site to have a maximum click potential... Take an example of a page with 10 links... One of these links will get more clicks than all of the other links... (usually the top link...) Let's say that the most clicked link gets 100 clicks... let's say the other 9 links get 30 each... your output is 370... There are a number of things happening -- all the links compete for attention... while one link may get the most attention -- there will be ways to get more attention for ALL of your links... this can be done with creative descriptions or wordplay... this creative attempt to get surfers to click by using some sort of narrative is what really makes webmastering an artform... especially since on the whole running a links site can be so damn boring and mundane and tedious... Anway here are some jumbles of personal notes from my files that may be helpful: ADVERTISING TIPS, OBSERVATIONS... 1. Links at the top get clicked the most. You probably already knew this. Links at the bottom get less... and less... 2. Links on the right get clicked more than links on the left. Why? Because anything close to the scroll bar gets clicked. If you are real anal -- this trick also works for getting more traffic from some stupid toplists that use columns instead of just one long list. 3. Text size observation. Surfers will even click very very tiny text. See SIZE NOTES. Same concept works here -- smart surfers (usually correctly) assert that small links at the bottom of a free site will have more free content than big links at the top -- because they are less likely to be ads... Throw in a bunch of little tiny links on your site just for variety -- and let me know if this improves your site's output. 4. Color... Some people say that bright colors get the surfer excited... Others say that more subtle colors -- presented in a pleasing/professional design, gains more trust from the surfer. Personally I think you should personally enjoy the way your own site looks... you will enjoy working on it more. See #5 though... 5. Attention/Focus. Here is an important concept. Let's say you have a two column table like this. (table)(tr) (td)ADVERTISEMENT BANNER HERE(/td) (td)SOME LINK HERE(/td) (/tr)(/table) The surfer may not focus on either links because they are competing for visual attention. In structural painting we call these visual elements, "events". If the "ADVERTISEMENT" is using more intense or brighter colors than "SOME LINK" -- the advertisement will get more clicks. Also do a test -- you may find that the advertisement alone will get more clicks than both links combined if they are displayed simultaneously. You may want your total output to be as high as possible. Using the same concept consider the following. Lets say you have a pic banner of one of Oliver Klozov's models linked to Oliver's site. Next to her pic you have some text saying, "Hi! I'm Wanda... Can you show me some magic? blah blah blah" <laugh> Now if that text is very bright and intense you may get fewer clicks to the picture link -- because the text is visually distracting from where you want the surfer to click (ie: the link). Of course this is hypothetical -- but the point is that you want to keep the surfers attention focused -- if you show the surfer too many things at once they will not focus in on anything. Of course you will find what works best for your site through trial and error. Remember this when you add useless information to your site. If you keep your site as direct -- and to the point as possible -- you will be able to focus the surfer's attention better. Some ways to produce an "event": a) Create empty space around your target. Sometimes as simple as using (br) or (p) tags. b) Center. Same as (a), maybe as simple as a (center) tag. See painter Jasper Johns, Target. c) Contrast. Dark colors against bright colors. If you have a dark background for your site -- just about everything on it will produce contrast. d) Intensity. Example: Red is more intense than pink -- because pink has been diluted from its maximum intensity of pure red, by the addition of white. For example lets say you are using RGB codes in html... #FF0000 -- that is the most intense red you can get. Pink would be #FFAAAA. The most intense green is #00FF00, the most intense blue is #0000FF, etc. Go to the bookstore and read about color -- it's not very difficult. There are three elements of color, "Hue", "Intensity" or saturation, and "Value" or degree of brightness/darkness. e) Brightness. See (d) f) Complimentary Colors. Your eyes get fucked up from seeing two complimentary colors next to each other. For example an intense red pic with a green border will really grab your attention. Complimentary colors are on opposite sides of the color wheel. h) Depth. I think there are six ways to create depth on a flat surface. I won't get into all of them -- use your imagination or look it up yourself. A classic example of this is just a Windows "OK" button -- it has shadows on two sides of it -- so it looks like it is jumping out of the flat screen. i) Eyes. For some reason <laugh> if we see a picture with a figure -- we are immediately drawn to the eyes. Just remember that eyes grab focus. See Manet's, Olympia. j) Erect penis, nipples, etc. I don't need to explain this. k) Sexy Woman. l) Animation? Did I say that already? 6. Funnel, Channel, whatever... About the same as #5. I've never used this on my site -- but I once heard that you can lead the surfer down your page to a target by starting out wide at the top and ending up at your focal point at the bottom. 7. People click anything and everything -- no matter what it is. This is very important. For example: remember this when you add counters to your page -- people will click them even if you tell them not to! People will click even those little tiny links that you tried to hide at the bottom of your site to fool the search engines. ... 10. If more than one window is open, your conversion ratio will drop! SIZE NOTES No matter how much traffic you have -- if your site doesn't have a lot of links -- people psychologically decide that you are a "small" site -- if you have a lot of links then you are a "big" site. What does that mean to the surfer and the webmaster? Now here's where it gets interesting... Some surfers may trust a small site more than a large site -- think about this. Webmasters will almost always trust a "big" site more than a small site. If you go with the "big" site angle -- give yourself more authority. This builds Trust. Give yourself an authority position -- be creative but essentially let the surfer know that you know what you're talking about -- give yourself a cool name so the surfer knows that you are the "King"... You are master of your domain. On my site I tell the surfers how long I have been "in the business" -- I even have my picture on there. It really works. If you go with the "small" site angle -- just pretend that you are just another average guy who likes looking at hot women -- only *you* have decided to *share* your pics, links, or whatever. Get the surfer to identify with you! People Trust what they know. Relate with them on a personal level. Tommy from Tommy's Bookmarks does this very successfully -- and so does Greenguy -- these sites get hundreds of thousands of visitors/day! ahaha ok anyway bottom line is whatever works... ------------------ 100 signups gets you a free room and show pass for Internext at the Venetian. Good stuff there fly....I put up J4f all over the linklist to generate a bit of income until i can get it re-organized. Great feedback for a change. I've been comming back to this board less and less lately due to the fact that everytime something is posted it turns into kiddy play or a pissing contest. Nice to see some professionals still left here. =)
