This recent news article regarding About.com's sale will show you the potential of the network I'm trying to build... this may help some of you understand the concept of what we're building. yes, it may take a while to build it to About.com's size and audience, but I'm focused on the finish line.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor..._primedia_dc_1
If you know how About.com started, you would see that we're building our blog network with a similar grass roots foundation. I remember meeting with some of the early about.com members/founders and was very intrigued with their concept, but was too busy working on my mainstream site. But one key thing I remember is that everyone involved in the beginning enjoyed the traffic/revenue share etc, and possibly stock options down the road.Primedia's About.com Up for Sale -- NY Times

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Publishing company Primedia Inc. (NYSE:PRM - news) has put About.com up for sale and final bids for the Web site are due on Tuesday, The New York Times reported.

A representative for Primedia could not immediately be reached for comment on the article.
Google, Yahoo, New York Times Co., AOL and Ask Jeeves could not immediately be reached for comment.

No, you do not need to go buy any domains. You can use ours. That's the major focus of our plan... to keep the surfers in the blog network with hundreds of our domains and unlimited numbers of bloggers on each domain.
for example: you could set up:
****.religionblog.com
****.pornblog.com
****.sexblog.com
****.lifeblog.com
****.loveblog.com
****.djblog.com
etc...
so save your money. ;)
if you want to get your own domains, go ahead, you can still join the network.
any more questions?

I already created a thread for this, but will repost it here for potential partners/sponsors that are passing through:
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=429724
----------------
Looking for adult superstore affiliate programs (i.e. MallCOM):
? cobranded &/or private label solutions. preferably PRIVATE LABEL
? webmaster referral program, multi-tiered, very important.
? ability to link directly to products
? real time stats (optional)
if you have a similar program to MallCOM, but do not offer any of the options above, but are open-minded and willing to consider it, then make that clear. pill/Herbal sponsors are also welcome.
post here or email me asap
[email protected]
looking for retail partners for the BLOG NETWORK I'm building.
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=397539
read the thread to see what we have planned, i.e. 300+ premium Blog domains (adult/mainstream) including SexBlog.com, PornBlog.com, NewsBlog.com, TVBlog.com, LifeBlog.com, etc and webmasters partnering with us as team-bloggers. Building a cohesive and comprehensive blog community. Will also be featuring product site reviews. Plus, will be serving contextual ads. Looking for retail sponsors across the entire network.
Of course we are looking for sponsors in all categories, all niches, both adult and mainstream... not just retail partners... so email or post your questions here. but be sure to read the blog thread mentioned to see if this is something you want to be part of.
Thanks in advance.

We are commited to making our blog network a success...
Early this morning we acquired a portfolio with hundreds of premium domains to use for the network. It was a very chaotic and intense bidding war against a rival blog network that was expecting to sign contracts with seller at 11AM this morning. My partner met the seller for dinner yesterday and my phone negotiations with seller began at 11PM and lasted till 9AM this morning... we were finally able to convince the seller to sell the portfolio to us instead, and we had the contract signed before our rivals even knew what hit them. The deal was sealed while our competitors were asleep. I will give more details later after all the domains complete the transfer process. These domains were coveted by us for quite some time, priceless gems, and we could not afford to let them fall into our competitors hands... especially a formidable, well-funded blog network that has a huge headstart on us... now they'll be looking over their shoulders worried about how fast we're catching up to them...
Everyone involved will be excited about our portfolio of blog domains.
We now have over 500 blogs domains for you to choose from!
I am so excited & exhausted, I have not slept for 30+ hours... we are working round-the-clock to finish our custom software. We'll keep you posted.
We need our team-bloggers & sponsors now more than ever!

yes, I know... very true... I could be like gawker media:Originally posted by triumphTaboo, you can also build a blog empire with domains that dont necessarily have the word blog in them.

http://www.defamer.com/
http://www.jalopnik.com/
http://www.screenhead.com/
http://www.gridskipper.com/
http://www.lifehacker.com/
but keep in mind, I want memorable, generic blog domains so that our bloggers who sign up for http://whatever.SexBlog.com won't have a problem remembering what the domain is.
Keep in mind we are nopt only a blog publishing network (i.e. www.gawker.com & ww.weblogsinc.com (w/70+ blogs)), we are also a blog service provider (i.e. blogger.com, xanga.com, etc.) + a community.
As I stated earlier, needing the domains for development was equally as important as not letting the domain portfolio go to one of my competitors... competitors that did not even know we existed... until now. Wait'll I tell you who we were up against. We are now in an even better position than before because now "their" venture capital backers know we exist... and will be focused on us and how to roll us up into their network before we get too big. LOL. I'm not going to let that happen... we're going to grow without VC funding in the beginning.
500+ quality/premium Blog domains and our goal is to have at least 1 dedicated team-blogger on board, plus unlimited # of bloggers on each domain using our free custom blog software... perhaps we're creating our own blogosphere.
If anyone is interested in being part of our blog network and have not emailed me yet or want to email me again, do so now. Tell me a little bit about yourself, your expertise, if you'd like to be a team-blogger (what topics) and earn revenue-share, a sponsor, a service-provider partner, etc... email me.

weblogsinc? who are they?Originally posted by triumphI like gawker and weblogsinc, great biz models they have.
Cuban I think invested over $4 million to Weblogsinc.
many blog ventures are in the VC spotlight and VC are circling looking for prey. it's always best if they approach you first... another blog company (sixapart.com blog software) already received 2nd round funding of $10,000,000 end of last year.
update on major blog domain acquisition:
combing thru list cancelling out redundant domains, and it looks like we're still at 500+, so overall result is:

I started my blog site last Oct. I'm up to about 50K uniques a day, 25K newsletter subscribers, and getting about 2K new subscribers a week now.
On the advertiser front, I got about 35 advertisers. I don't use services like adbrite, I sell the space at JoesTraffic.com.
The only thing I'm looking for are cross promotion partners.
Here is my site...

Glad to see someone bump this thread.
We're still aiming for 05.05.05 for our "soft" launch. We re-shaped our business model after integrating the blog network (services & hundreds of domains) we acquired. We analyzed our original concept and evolved it so we could unify everything under one umbrella. It's going to be much bigger and better now.
Most importantly, we will still need dedicated bloggers and affiliates.
...more details later.Comment

Due to requests from some of our investors & partners, we may have to sell two of our prized blog domains (DAMN):
SexBlog.com
PornBlog.com
We're still considering partnering with adult webmasters/companies to develop both blog sites outside of our network, but I need to begin looking for prospective buyers just in case we have to sell these domains before we launch. I won't know for sure until June 2005, but send in your offers/questions in the meantime.
If you're interested in buying or partnering with us to develop either/both sites, email me asap: [email protected]
For those of you that have been in contact with me, you know how painful this is for me... I truly don't want to let go of these domains, but it may be a funding requirement.

still very possible, but as mentioned above... sexblog.com will have to be it's own self-contained network independent of the 500+ blog portals.Originally posted by Nickythat was too bad, I was gonna blog on milf.sexblog.com and celebrity.sexblog.com

partnering discussions for SexBlog.com & PornBlog.com are taking place here:
http://www.gfy.com/showthread.php?t=462150
keeping that discussion separate since those names are no longer part of the larger network.Comment

and You still will... Our partners FINALLY agreed and will let me keep the domains: SexBlog.com & PornBlog.com
Domains are no longer for sale!

update
On 05.05.05, we launched a few sites and moved forward with one of our large domain/projects... big step with big player and key partner... will announce later. Plus, we launched an online/offline "scavenger hunt" which will lead into our blog network and our other ventures (video games, dating & nightlife).
Also, we spent most of last week & weekend at the blog conference in Nashville networking and checking out the blogosphere's major players (www.BlogNashville.org). Some very important/famous bloggers and "stealth" investors at the event. Helped us define our business model.
More details coming soon and yes we are moving forward with many of the ideas we mentioned in this thread.
Email me if you are still interested in learning more... so I know who to contact before launch
