This is what I love to see:
similar to what I have in mind.Weblogs, Inc., The World?s Largest Blog Publisher, Announces the Launch of 62nd Weblog, Luxury Weblog Luxist.com
Today Weblogs, Inc. (www.weblogsinc.com), the largest publisher of professional blogs, announced the launch of their 62nd Weblog?Luxist (www.luxist.com), a blog based on fine living and luxury items.
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 3, 2004 -- Today Weblogs, Inc. (www.weblogsinc.com), the largest publisher of professional blogs, announced the launch of their 62nd Weblog?Luxist (www.luxist.com), a blog based on fine living and luxury items.
?I?m addicted to magazines like the Robb Report, Cigar Aficionado, Wine Spectator and Conde Nast Traveler, and I?d prefer them in a blog format, so we launched our own spin on the luxury space,? explains Weblogs, Inc. co-founder Jason McCabe Calacanis.
According to Calacanis, the blog will focus on categories such as high-performance cars, writing instruments, timepieces, spirits, luxury travel and destinations, wines and spirits, cigars, handbags, apparel, yachts, planes, and collectibles.
Brands featured on the blog include Maybach, Baccarat, Gucci, Hermes, Jetshare, Rolex, the Four Seasons resorts, Mont Blanc, Cartier, Chanel, Burberry, Bvlgari, Vertu, Rolls Royce, Cristal, Hennessey, Grey Goose, Montecristo, Cohiba, Versace and LVMH.
Luxist is launching with two fully refined bloggers. Deidre Woollard, who grew up on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, and worked on the advertising and production end of a number of national magazines before deciding to go back to school and finish up her degree at Harvard University Extension School, has also written for several websites including Elites TV, Black Table and Posh City. Deidre?s philosophy regarding luxury is, ?I believe that luxury is not necessarily about what is most expensive but instead is about what is unique or exciting about a product or service.?
Our second Luxist blogger, Nino Marchetti, spends his waking hours as a full time, freelance journalist writing a variety of stories for the San Mateo Daily Journal and at Weblogs, Inc. as ?Blogger in Residence?. Nino has written on food, travel and personal technology, with work having appeared in ComputorEdge, About.com and DesignTechnica.
About Weblogs, Inc.
Weblogs, Inc. (www.weblogsinc.com) was founded on January 1st 2004 with the mission of creating industry-leading blogs across hundreds of content niches. In ten months the firm has created 62 blogs in partnership with dozens of bloggers who bring expertise from their fields. The network of blogs has also attracted blue-chip advertisers such as Google, Suzuki, HP, Bose, Palm, Microsoft and Audible. The firm raised an angel round of funding in March of 2004 from legendary Internet pioneer Mark Cuban.

also, please don't register domains that include trademarked terms, TRADEMARKED_NAMEblog.com, of no use to me.

getting lots of email.
some good questions and some great suggestions. feel free to post your thoughts here.
a lot of you are asking me to reserve subdomains for you. it's great to see you all excited. keep in mind that some subdomains can be run by 1 person, and others will have multiple bloggers in order to build a stronger audience.
re: link trading
definitely will be incorporated
re: software we're using
custom + other solutions & always looking for more programmers.
re: layout options
I'm very flexible and open-minded, so anything is possible. however, if it's ugly, I may ask you to make some changes.
re: adult and/or mainstream
the network will cater to both. you are welcome to be a blogger for any subject that you're passionate about. you are not limited to one blog, you can publish multiple ones. but I'm not trying to create a large network of fake bloggers, defeats the purpose, so stick with what you know/love and blog... you'll build a loyal following and steady revenue stream.
re: blog updates
you can update your blog as much as you want. there will be limits on entry size (too low & too high) due to the fact that some readers will set up email alerts and I don't want readers getting hammered with alerts just because a blogger posts 3 words.
re: affiliate programs
yes, there will be multiple ones. will explain later.
re: designers
yes you can join our team to simply offer design services. you will be allowed to promote your design services as well. you will not be required to blog, but why not blog about being a designer?
I'll be blogging about domains, startups, VCs, etc.
re: US/English only?
of course not. Blog in any language you want to. Klingon for all I care. (yes that was a question I received. LOL)
re: Hosting Partners
yes, we are looking for hosting sponsor. you'll be able to promote your company on every page with a link/button plus earn a % of revenue when members upgrade to paid services. Yes, we are looking for multiple partners.
re: single girls, models, people with their own paysite
yes, you can use us to power your blog. and yes you can keep it password protected for your members only. you can even offer a free blog & a members blog. yes, you can customize the blog to match your site design, etc.
Thanks for all the feedback. I can see now that this may be a lot greater than I ever imagined.
more suggestions/questions are welcome.Comment

re: how will bloggers make money?
Bloggers will earn a % of revenue based on the traffic to their blogs, plus earn % when their readers (members who joined the network with their affiliate id) spend $ on gear, membership upgrades, upsells, cross-sells, etc.
Yes, I'm planning on offering bonuses for "most popular" blogger, etc and as mentioned earlier you will have opportunities to promote your services/sites as long as there is no conflict of interest etc.
there will be additional revenue channels that I can not discuss now, because it is one of the things that will make our blog network unique. lets just say, that'll stay "in stealth mode" a little while longer, until everyone signs Non-Disclosure Agreements.
re: can you save the subdomain milf.sexblog.com
LOL. currently the most requested subdomain from future team players (10+). categories like this will be shared by multiple bloggers in order to grow it into a trusted blog with a devoted fanbase. but the funny thing is that one of the emails I received was from someone with a very jampacked and interesting life. I explained to him that while he can help run milf.sexblog.com, it would be much better for him to have multiple blogs discussing his (1) marketing expertise, and (2) going to a top-ranked university in Europe. I'm looking for global bloggers who want to share their lives (the ups & the downs).
re: how many sites within the network
Countless. Ever-growing. Constantly launching. At least 300+ targeted domains, each one with endless subdomains. I'm building a large keiretsu* of blogs.
*keiretsu = kei·ret·su
n. A network of businesses that own stakes in one another as a means of mutual security & shared resources.Comment

Do you have any information technology blogsOriginally posted by Taboo
thats great. I'll share more details soon.
I'm also looking for bloggers who want to publish/contribute to the various niche blogs to bring their expertise, ideas and publish daily updates. For example, if you want to start a blog for you city, then I'll set one up for you at:
yourcity.cityblog.com
for your fetish:
subdomain.fetishblog.com
etc...
obviously the more you contribute, the larger your stake.

Do you have any information technology blogs
i was the head writer for a technology infomediary.
I have 300+ domains with the term "blog", but plenty more in my domain portfolio that work with almost every topic/industry out there including TECH. I'll be able to let you choose which sub.techdomain.com you want to publish your blog under.
Many of my competitors are using domains with words they invented which is great for them (gizmodo.com, kotaku.com, jalopnik.com, luxist.com, etc) but not really part of my branding strategy.
re: lots of email about gossip blogs
for the gossip blog network we'll be using:
CelebrityGossip.com
MusicGossip.com
SportsGossip.com
ModelGossip.com
BizGossip.com
RoyalGossip.com
etc...Comment

Great idea Taboo...I'm confident you will do well.
I have masturbationblog.com (it actually started on a subdomain and it took off so quickly I ended up getting the .com ;)
Blogs are an excellent investment...both money wise, and time wise.
Best of luck with it!

All sounds good, great work you've done...
Whatever direction you go, remember the other big buzz word(s) now: "rss feeds". There are a LOT of syndication sites that will index your blog and send updates to users. My Yahoo! has it as well ... and it's very easy to get it set up.
Please msg me on ICQ, I'd like to get in on this. 312104564Comment

you still deep in the mines?Originally posted by fris
i aquired sleekblog.com
today
I was able to pick up a few more that were still available in the mines...
for the partner program:
BlogPartner.com,BlogPartners.com
other categories:
SelfDefenseBlog.com
POVBlog.com
OrgyBlog.com
HealthyBlog.com
for the luxury category:
PlushBlog.com
UpscaleBlog.com
BillionaireBlog.com
LeisureBlog.com
YachtBlog.com,YachtsBlog.com,YachtingBlog.com
WealthBlog.com/WealthyBlog.com
and a few more.
also, picked up ProBlog.com in today's DomainDrop
...
btw, I'm glad you all are picking up more blog domains, but don't go too crazy. We have plenty of Blog sites to work with (for now).
I hope you all aren't paying more than $8 per domain. If you are, you are welcome to use my domain reseller site I set up at http://www.DomainTech.com - It's a GoDaddy private label that anyone can setup for themselves. I set mine to the absolute lowest price that GoDaddy allows which is:
$7.85 for 1 domain
$6.75 for 50+
Currently my price is lower than their own 8.95 thru godaddy.com, but their current bulk (50+) promo is cheaper at $6.50 per domain. I asked them to let me set my price lower and they said "NO, system won't allow it." LOL.
Some of the professional domainers are paying under $7 in bulk, but I still read about plenty of people paying $10-$25+ per domain.
Those days are over.
I set up the reseller site to offer domains to our future Blog audience and promote across the entire network. If you want to set up your own private-label, you can email me for details or go to wildwestdomains.com. There is a fee of $100-$300 annual fee depending on the membership level you choose. I do not charge that fee to use DomainTech.com, that is the reseller fee I paid to set up the private label. If you have lots of domains, I highly recommend it because it allows total private-label customization of the entire godaddy product line and they make it very easy to setup your own store. I don't work for them, I'm just impressed with their reseller setup.Comment

I email the owner all the time. I believe he still owns VideoBlogs.com, MobileBlog.com, MobileBlogs.com, etc.
I had the chance to buy them back in April/May for less than $10K for all of them but had to curb my spending because I had just bought Official.com, Curious.com, Companionship.com, OSN.com, etc... half of me wishes I had bought them, other half is glad I didn't. I'll approach him after the network is live and ask him to join.
