$4.95 domain regs from Yahoo!

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/

Catch is that you can only transfer after 60 days, and email forwarding is only to a yahoo.com email address.

I thought by ICANN policies all registrars cannot allow transfers the first 2 months. Maybe I am wrong.

How could yahoo sell domains this cheap though? I beleive ICANNS cost to Yahoo is more than what yahoo is charging. How does yahoo expect to make money of this. Are there any hidden fees?

They don't have to make money off of everything they sell or do. Could be, and probably is, a part of their marketing efforts.

Yahoo is using this marketing technique as bait for their other services (like their Plus membership, email services, and of course, hosting services).

Yahoo is smart but I think enough is going to get pissed off.

However, I am unable to register

I am going to give them a try for 1 domain to see how their control panel is and if they try to bait and switch or spam me. $4.95 is the cheapest by far no?

Ok I got through. I had to create a yahoo mail account first instead of registering at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/.

My review so far from the domain i registered is the following:

1) Whois information automatically becomes what was entered on the credit card (name and billing address)

2) So far I am unable to enter the contact name in the whois (it remains the one used on the credit card and does not look editable)

Other than the little whois problem and taking 2 minutes to find out how to get to the control panel, it's worth the $4.95.

The way its setup a novice would think after reging the domain that they should or have to use the yahoo hosting..

But you dont have to use there stuff , just swap your nameservers in and your done.

Hmm mine popped a form in between to edit my whois details and by default it was filled in with cc details , but i changed them fine.

I don't know if yahoo would like it if you register a couple thousand domains with them and don't purchase any extra services. I know they will be losing money on customers like this, don't know if I want to trust them yet.

Since my main email is yahoo and I use the yahoo toolbar, this service will be great for me...five dollar domains are great. And it's just in time for a project that I had planned.
