Hey Redskins Fans! Portis just got BENCHED!

The 50.5 million dollar RB just got benched in favor of Ladell Betts.

Maybe Portis was just another RB in the amazing Denver system and is not the best RB ever to play as he's put it. He left because he said he was bigger then the Denver system and would not play there if he was not the highest paid player in football.

Just goes to show ya what happens when you talk to much.

Portis's replacment Ruben Droughns has more rushing yards, in less games then Portis as well.

I think Portis is the next Olandis Gary.

Looks like Joe Gibbs should have stayed in Racing. He's not up to par on the changes that have gone on in the nfl the past decade

He's been with them 3 years now. He's never been given a chance to be the man. They've always sort of had a RB by commitee type deal in Washington.

Last week when given a chance he did a lot better then Portis.

Exactly, all his hype about being the best ever, and all the t shirts, and shit he does. It's sad really. I remember earlier this season in an interview when he said he didn't see anything special about Preist Holmes or Edge James.. That they could not compare to him.

Maybe he needs to check his stats and see who has been a bigger help.

Please all you Redskin fans are just mad because you thought he was going to be your saviour.

ANYONE can run behind a decent offensive line and whoever they put in the backfield in Denver proves it. Washington O-lines sucks. How the hell is he supposed to RUN when he is getting tackled as soon as he gets the handoff? Changing running backs isnt going to fix anything. Sounds like a last ditch effort for the coach to save his job.

Brunell was a bad idea really. They should have stuck with Ramsey and tried to develop him

Gibbs is in his first season, he won't have to worry about his job for a bit.

If the o line is so bad, why did Betts outrun him last week?

Come on buddy, you are reaching now. Betts had 34 yards on 8 carries. 26 of which was on 1 run.

They gave him a long term contract. They are not going to pull the plug after one season.

Well if Portis is so good, why is he not starting?

And don't give me that O line crap. When you are good players try harder.

Walter Payton
Barry Sanders
Eric Dickerson

All played on losing teams, and still racked up tons of yards. If you are a gifted runner, especially the likes that Portis claims he is, you'll make it happen

Portis, among the NFL's rushing leaders with 945 yards and coming off consecutive 1,500-yard seasons for Denver, had only six carries for 17 yards. He has just 54 yards the last two weeks.

"We felt our best way to get it downfield (was to throw)," Gibbs said. "I am sure he will be upset about it. I expect him to be. He is very competitive."

Portis said, "I'm not in Denver anymore, I'm in Washington, I have to find a way to be a key player in this system, the same way I was there."

------------

He is still going to have a 1K yard season this year, without "the O line" Portis is a great back - He isnt starting because the coaching staff KNOWS that since they have just been running the ball defenses have stacked the box and its not effective anymore. To place the blame on Portis for their record isnt fair.

Seems Washington fans have the "What have you done for me lately disease."

Every bad situation needs a scapegoat. Portis is wearing the hat now.

Their season is over. Why risk using Portis anyways?

Takes more then one half of a season to install a new system and to make it work. Going with someone long term makes a lot more sense. Look at Pittsburgh. They have stood by Cowher and he's doing nice.

Cuz he is paid to play. You don't pay someone 50 million to sit on the bench. That's not fair to the team, the fans, or the people paying millions for the TV contract.

Why risk him getting hurt and then not being able to play when it counts? Same reason Priest Holmes should sit the remainder of the year.

They are paid to play. You don't bench all the starters when you can't make the playoffs. No one would go to the games, and sales would go down on merch, consessions and everything else. Sports is not just about if they should play or not.

They are paid to win games.
