Some people rent there sites out, as far as just a domain never seen it done.

If you own it you can do whatever you want with it. If you come across someone who wants to rent it negotiate a deal with them. If you want to rent a domain from someone get ahold of them and negotiate something. It's not rocket science.

I've seen people rent out serious type in's for certain amounts of time.
