FUCKING CRAP.

It never used to be this bad. For the past week I have been completely UNABLE TO REMOVE some spyware/adware/hijackware/jackassware from my PC. This is PISSING ME OFF.

What software are you using?

ALL OF THEM ARE FUCKING WORTHLESS - I TRIED ABOUT 5 ALREADY. I fucking hate spyware.

After I got all of it clean switching to firefox reduced my spyware to about 1% of what I was getting.

First run a new virus removal tool with the most current update, they can get in that way.

Then go to the control panel, click add/remove software and look for strange shit and ditch all of it.

Finally run:
adaware
spybot
hijack this
CWShredder

All are free except the good virus removal.

Hope it helps.

That will probably work. If it does still feel lucky. If it doesnt seem worth it pawn your pc.

Spybot Search and Destroy gives you the ability to find and manually remove the stuff it doesn't automatically take care of.

Launch it in advanced mode and go to the tools area. Check the Active X list and remove anything you can't identify and is not marked safe. Do the same for Browser helpers and startup files. The last thing, and the one that most everyone forgets about, is the browser pages.... this is shit like your start page, search pages, etc. Remove or edit anything that isn't pointing to a place you recognize.

One other EASY thing you can do if your infection is recent.... use windows system restore and go back to a restore point before the infection.

first the free one:

Go to http://www.webroot.com, the downloads section, and get Spy Sweeper.

Then go to http://www.Kaspersky.com and get that. I used both the paid and the beta version, the beta version is fine.

Most likely, the popups you got now arefrom spyware/scumware/etc that was installed while you were running IE, no matter how long ago. Run those programs (FUCK NORTON and any other antivirus you are using, get Kas) and use firefox from now on.

You are welcome my friend.

I posted a thread about this a few months ago when I had the same problem. Everyone posted their prefered combination of programs and I tried them all and still had spyware on my PC. I concluded that once you have it, you are better off backing everything up and formatting than trying to remove it. Most programs just delete cookies and don't actually get the spyware running on your computer. Although some programs reduce the level of spyware for a while, the only sure fix seems to be a format. Prevention is probably the best line of defence, maybe try firefox or atleast keep windows updated.

what popups are you getting? your start page change everytime? If so, do a google search for the address in your start page it keeps going too. Usually someone else has had the same problem and can help.

Throw your PC out and get Firefox and all the good software on the new computer.

Once you got them in, you're fucked.

You can reformat I suppose.

Try the trendmicro one. go to housecall.trendmicro.com and run the free online virus scan. It will find things that most will not. It is very good.,

All the above is good advice, but sometimes you have to learn something new.

It sucks when you are as old, and puter stupid as some of us are, well, okay me, but it does not take long to learn reg edit, and then go look for shit in your registry. Usually the name gives it away. Also doing a search with the name of the company product IE: The Amazing Diet Patch, will find where they hid the exe files.

Alex'a methods for avoiding infection:

Don't use IE.

Automatically filter and DELETE any email with an attachment. Get a hotmail account for morons that insist on mailing you attachments.

Run adaware SE, spybot, cwshredder and such. cwshredder is VERY important, it really sounds like you got a bad case of coolwebsearch (the biggest bunch of crooked bastards on the net right now). They specifically build their stuff to reinstall itself from almost nothing.

To get rid of things like you have, run all of the above tools sequentially with NOTHING ELSE RUNNING on your system. Kill all processed you don't recognize. Remove your net connection. Remove all floppies, disks, and re-writable cds / dvds from your system. Scan ALL drives.

Reboot your system. DO IT ALL AGAIN.

Reboot your system. DO IT ALL AGAIN.

Usually by this point, you are safe.

When in doubt, fdisk your system and reinstall from scratch.

NOTE: Keep your system updated. Windows update, update your scumware scanners, and so on. They scumware makes don't stop developing, so keep yourself up to date.

More than anything, stop surfing porn.

Alex
