I was thinking about opening a fake member's section and supplying a pass to the various password sites. You think this sort of traffic will be productive?

that's not a very uncommon thing to do. Give it a try. Make a fake section with a pass that expires in a week and see what happens.

sometimes it's not about making money right away but about branding. if you see blahblahpornsite.com on every pass site then the name becomes more known right? When the name is more known you get people who think "hey, i remember that site i was in a few months ago, maybe I'll go join up now that I have a credit card". The once inside the real section and paying they think "holy fuck, this is way more content than last time, I'm staying"

It can and has happened for many paysite owners.
