I got the best present for Thanksgiving in the world!

8 years ago, my husband and I got divorced. I moved out of state and let my children decide where they wanted to stay. They wanted to stay where they were, with their dad.

I backed them up all the way, and didn't let it show how devistated I was, and I did understand about not leaving friends, school and grandparents. What was best for them was my main concern.

2 years later my ex husband had what I can only explain as a nervous breakdown. He called me one day and told me he was giving the children up and going on the road full time. I arranged to have them picked up and they flew here to be with me.

4 years passed with no word from him. How can you deal with a father abandoning your children? It tore me apart because I knew what kind of damage it may do to them. We didn't expect to see him ever again

Until....... today

He showed up on our doorstep, crying and apologizing. He was miserable over what he'd done and came to make it right. It was me he was angry with.. and couldn't get over it for the last 8 years.. that's a long time to stay angry.

I've prayed for this day for 4 years, my children needed to know their father loved them.

I am so happy, and so thankful I had to share this with you all.. I love my kids so much.. they're everything to me.

divorce and child custody is never a pretty thing . . . glad it worked out for you . . . although I am not sure how I would react if one of my ex's showed up on my doorstep.

No way...I wouldn't even shake his hand if he ever came up to me in the street..That bastard left my mom with 3 kids..she had a real hard time back then and had to give up my twin brother up for adoption because she couldn't handle it..I have a lot of respect for single moms.

That was so nice to hear. I can be a prick to so many people and a hard ass boss, but I always have a soft spot in my heart for kids. Best of luck putting it all back together.

that must be a chick thing, there is no way I would welcome her with open arms . . . it is tough enough just being civil for the sake of the kids

That sounds like a great story and all, but I'd have told him to get fucked. Showing up at your doorstep with ZERO contact with your kids for 4 years isn't a beautiful thing. It was emotionally reckless. He should have contacted you first and discussed it.

How does he know your kids haven't been totally fucked up ever since or whatever? And is he going to consistantly be in their lives now?

Just my but all in all, your kids will love him no matter what and congrats to them for having two parents that care.

Sure I understand that..maybe it fucked me up not having a dad..I just know I would never abandon my kids because of what my asshole of a dad did...Kids need a father figure and it does fuck them up one way or another.. I'm 43 and that was 40 years ago..you would think I would forget about it.

Well I hope that things go the right way, and the wrong feelings dont get in the way. The kids need both parents.
