I would also say it is a 3D package that was used to produce that image. Something like Softimage XSI or Maya.Comment

Actually, if you look at the shovels, the texture is the same on 3 of them, on the other one it is hard to tell (3 little dents). Looks like different lighting and bump mapping? but I am 95% sure that is 3D work. Good work though.Comment

Usually when you look at a pic, at the instant you see it, if it looks a little dodgy, like you are questioning its validity, its usually because your brain has picked up that something doesn't quite look right. If you look at it too long you will get used to the slight differences in lighting for example, and it begins to look more real. Go with your first instinct.
