Host Backup Server Solution? (For BIG TGPs) - GoFuckYourself.com

Hello,

Anyone knows or uses a Server Backup kind-of solution in case your primary Server/Host goes down?

Example:

Your 100k TGP is Hosted on --A-- but it there's a router problem.
Third Party DNS detects the problem ASAP and redirect all traffic to a different IP address located on Host --B--

100% Uptime whatever happen to one or the other of your host.

Custom programming of a script that copy/export files and data to the Backup Server once every few hours.

It's called rsync in crontab.

Thanks for the info, I'm not really into programming myself

Or even better, the scripts you are using can have some kind of backup server built-in as a add-on. To keep all live trades going as if there was not delay at all.

I'm sure some big TGP guys use backup stuff. Please tell me about your solutions!

Thanks for the link. Interesting stuff... except it looks more like a local solution.

While CARP is a wonderful piece of software and a worthy addition to any system administrator's arsenal, it's not a panacea. In some situations, you may be better off looking elsewhere. Fallover at different physical locations comes to mind immediately. CARP requires that the members of a group be on the same physical subnet. If you have systems spread across geographical distance -- or even on different subnets in the same datacenter -- it's probably best to look at other options for failover.

Both our hosts will be located at different geographical locations, in case there's a routing problem (West - East USA)

Yes, signed up @ UltraDNS and their Queries fee is a bit expensive. They charge like 0.45 per 1000 queries (a 200k site has about 800,000 queries per month.

Sent them an email to make sure I got it right... waiting on the reply and trying to find alternatives at the same time.
