Freedom defeated?

This thread put me over the edge.

From the thread in question:

After all we've fought for... after all the speeches & protests, declarations and last ditch efforts... after all the blood spilled in the very name of freedom itself... you'd just give it all up. Just like that. Just so you can *feel* a little bit safer on your trip to Disneyworld.
That is truly the saddest thing I've ever heard. Because you're not safer.

You're just less free than you were yesterday.
Something relevant:

Quote:
Some were ready and prepared,
Others were so young and so naive.
Some of them chose to serve our country,
Others had no choice, they were called to serve.

As they hugged and kissed their loved ones bye,
Their hearts were heavy and tears filled in their eyes.
Not knowing if they would be coming back home,
Or if they would die, it was all so unknown.

As they prepared to fight for our freedom,
We prayed to God for their safety.
They all left their loved ones,
And their lives that they had known.

They departed to an unfamiliar land,
Risking their lives and making so many sacrifices.
Being away from family and friends,
Giving up what most can't even comprehend.

The horrors and atrocities that
Our Veterans faced and endured.
You may not ever know or totally understand.
They protected our rights, our freedom, and the rights of others,
So that we could have and enjoy freedom in our land.

Some came home to a Hero's welcome,
Others didn't come home at all, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
Some came home and were disgracefully shunned,
Others have been so shamefully forgotten.

All of our Veterans served our country,
With great pride and true honor.
There is a price for freedom which they ALL so graciously paid.
They ALL greatly deserve to be remembered and honored,
Afterall....they are truly America's Heros!

"It is the Soldier, not the Reporter who has given us the freedom of press.
It is the soldier, not the Poet who has given us the freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the Campus Organizer
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier who salutes the Flag,
who serves beneath the Flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the Flag,
who allows the Protester to burn the Flag."
- Father Dennis O'Brian
I can argue, debate, discuss, critisize & be critisized, agree and/or disagree, yell & smile, put up with, ignore, or be ignored on quite literally ANY subject. But when you start handing over the keys to freedom itself...

man, I gotta find a new place to hang.

It took alot to get to where we are. It didn't come easy or cheap. People around the globe envy what we have on a daily basis. Sure people hate us too, but it isn't because they don't like what we have... it's because it stands directly between them and their fanatical visions of conquest.

What is it? We defend it with our lives. We cry for it. We symbolize it. We tell our kids stories of it. We slap it on a Mastercard and carry it proudly in our wallets. We can't really describe it, because it's not a tangible thing, but we know we have it and we know it's still worth fighting for.

Other people can only dream of it.

What harm is there in a bar code? What harm is there in tracking people? What harm is there with having cameras on every corner, on every street, in every city... watching...

Safety is not freedom. Security is not freedom. Certainly those things can co-exist with freedom, but never at the expense of it. Again, I think that is the saddest thing I've ever heard. If you want to give it all away... you're even free to do that. But remember... you won't be tomorrow. And don't give mine away with it, because I value mine and I will fight you for it.

There's no point in me discussing anything else, if you don't even hold a basic understanding of what it means to be free. Ponder THAT when you're sippin' your next mocha latte at Starbucks.

I'm movin' on.

Thanks go out to all of our Veterans that served past and present. And also to our MIAs, POWs, our service men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice and to their families that they left behind. Never forget brothers & sisters...

...it's not free.

Left out:
"It's the police that arrest the protester for burning the flag. It's the congress that takes away the freedoms won by soldiers."
