music doesn't neccisarily have to relate to you personally to sound good to your ears. and on a base level it does relate, because everyone had hard times growing. and in a way it's nice to hear that other's people's lives suck too.

not all songs are liked soley based on lyrical content. For me, it's the music, the beat, the melodies, harmonies and cadence. 9/10 it's not what they say, but how they say it. This goes for all music genres, too.
But, I won't make the mistake of going to another rap concert again. I was never so scared as I was at the Beat's Summer Jam about 8 years ago... when it was 92.3.... the year Biggies Smalls, Junior Mafia, Toni Tony Tone, etc played.

i grew up with real thugs when i was younger.
i got deeper into it but i always kept a level head. all of them are doing long ass prison sentences now. all because they were caught up in the lifestyle glorified by the music. i wish there was more outlets back then to hear more types of music like EDM.
