I was actually signing up to a few with my mom-in-law (trying to marry her off) ;) I was impressed with very few to be honest.

There used to be kiss.com that was basic & not too fancy - not kicking you out every few minutes but they sold/merged or partnered up with udate.com and lost their appeal.

I used to love dating sites - you meet sooooooo many interesting folks when there's the community chat options. Emailing back'n forth get's tiresome at some point and then you move to the phone - so you cancel your membership ;)

Give different levels of membership with profile/limited amount of emails to receive - search limits either by amount or by distance.

The thing is when there are too many 'free members' if you're a member, you end up writing to a fly-by-night who can't write you back unless they become members. When their memberships run out though, they sign up under another handle - so essentially they become the 'voyeuristic' dater without a voice ;)

Well than they'd simply contact the member/s they like, leave them some contact info, and believe me they would find ways to do it, and than just go from there. I think conversions would be down a shitload, because it isn't about posting their profile, it is about them seeking out girls/guys they think are hot and getting in touch with them. Either way, it is a wasted arguement, because there is no way the current setup will change on the major sponsors.
